Re: The Lounge
There are multiple materials that are lightsaber proof, so my guess is yes, they should be.

Re: The Lounge
Not sure if the handles are. Lightsaber proof metal was expensive iirc, and if you're getting the handle hit by a lightsaber, A) it's an enemy and B) they've just cut through your hand anyway. But Lightsabers do hit each other, so a crossguard isn't actually a crazy idea at all.

Re: The Lounge
It's not a crazy idea, but this crossguard concept plain would not work if the emitter was not made of lightsaber-proof material in the first place, so you could replace the potentially-cut-my-own-wrist-off lightsaber crossguard with a plain lightsaber-proof-metal one and have all of the benefits and none of the downsides.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing

Re: The Lounge
I hope there's a very, very good story behind that lightsaber to make up for that horrible design.

Re: The Lounge
now that you mention it could be lightsaber proof, thats probably the reason i mean, im hoping its a unique lightsaber and that whoever that is wielding it is special enough to have it

Re: The Lounge
One wacky theory I heard is that it's not a crossguard per se - they're vents. The main beam flickers a lot more than earlier lightsabers (throughout the earlier movies, blades have always been very straight and clean), suggesting it's either cruder/simpler or somehow overcharged, and the vents are there to make the blade length more controllable or something maybe? I dunno. I'm not sure I really buy it, the crackly/flickery style is probably just to ramp up evilness or a new style thing.

Re: The Lounge
If they wanted cross guards, I don't know why they didn't just do something like this: If beams can't intersect or w/e, just angle it slightly so the guard beams go past the main beam instead of through. Still seems like a good way to injure yourself, though. Maybe it's not a cross guard for deflecting other lightsabers, but shots from laser weaponry?Maybe lightsabers were actually tools before they were used as weapons, and the lightsaber that the guy is using was removed from such tool with few modifications. If the main beam could have its spread increased to be like a cone and the device is slowly pushed into a device while spinning, the main beam acts as the primary "drilling" force while the side beams do the clean up work by trimming the inside. Edit: Perhaps it could've been from a threading device? Main beam makes hole, side beams create threading cut for giant screws or something. Maybe it was used in spacecraft construction.

Re: The Lounge
I don't know about that Cricket. It could be a wierd, makeshift lightsaber based on some tool, which could relate with Arcalane's theory, but as far as I know, from the earliest versions of lightsabers, they have always been used as weapons as a primary function. Also, that design you posted looks neat

Re: The Lounge
Lightsabers are some magic jedi/sith bull♥♥♥♥, I'm pretty sure they're not used for any industrial (or even non-combat) purpose.

Re: The Lounge
I think Arcalane is closest to the theory behind the lightsaber where they're sort of vents.
The crystals sith lightsabers use are synthetic and man-made. They tend to be unstable, giving off a sort of fire-like consistency. Compared to a jedi's lightsaber crystal which is natural and organic, they have a much sharper and structured edge.
So they could potentially just serve as some unorthodox hand guard/vent.
