my vaporwave brother

Been bumping Tokyo Death Watch at obscene volume a lot lately - they follow in a similar noise rap vein to Clipping and Death Grips, making up for their nothing-special rap abilities with absolute skullcrushing production that is simultaneously frightening and exhilarating to listen to while speeding down the highway.

Useful, thanks

I don't think I'm that huge of a fan of vaporwave actually, at least most vaporwave I've heard (admittedly not a lot compared to the above list so who knows). I usually prefer the more funky/upbeat stuff rather than the slowed down, chillwave like sound vaporware mostly seems to have, and I hope Saint Pepsi will do some more original work in the vein of his latest, or else more like his Hit Vibes. If anyone has recommendations in that direction please do share them. Love the aesthetic though and you find some cool old songs through it too sometimes.

I'm huge on vaporwave.

Some people with the culture value of a rock will try to argue that it's a horrible genre.
Don't listen to them.

I can sort of understand where they're coming from with how big vaporwave is on beat-mining, sampling and editing vs 'actually making music', but I don't care too much as long as it sounds good I guess.

Actually, it's mostly other electronic music fans who complain. Vaporwave has some of the most lazily thrown together song structures.

This is good.

Vaporwave is good, but I really only listen to it in a certain mood. Think "dust motes and pot smoke drifting through a sunbeam" and you'll have my vaporwave mood. That and going to sleep, Saint Pepsi is really nice to sleep to. I tend towards glo fi and chillwave more for that stuff than vaporwave, though, something like Brothertiger or Slow Magic.

PLVN/PLAN is a glo-fi artist that I'm really fond of.

I feel like Saint Pepsi and similar artists kind of shed the early trappings of vaporwave a while back and are kind of in a genre of their own (far less sampling and direct plunderphonics, more emphasis on drums and synths). I don't know what I would call them, though.

I fell back in love with neofolk in my quest for neoclassical darkwave and martial industrial. The three styles have a lot of crossover.
