Airplanes
I've been interested in all kinds of aircraft for about a year now, but there's nobody to discuss these things with, so I'm making this post hoping that there's at least a couple of people on DRLFF who're interested in flying hunks of metal.
So yeah, airplanes. All kinds of airplanes. Biplanes, jets, modern passenger aircraft, historical warplanes. Come one, come all, and let's talk about these marvels of technology.
Are you interested in one of the greatest achievements of human engineering? Do you have a favourite plane? Do you / have you studied flying? (This actually really interests me; do we have any pilots on DRLFF?) Or do you just like the way a particular passenger jet looks when it zooms over your house when landing or taking off?
Then come and post! Let's discuss the vehicles a land-based mammal conquered the skies with!

Re: Airplanes
Propeller planes are lame unless the propellers are on the back. Variable sweep wings are the champions of the world.

Re: Airplanes
I adore the Vulcan and the Victor Is this just an airplanes thread, or are we including other types of air vehicles? If so the Kamov Ka-29, -31, -50 'Black Shark' and -52 are sexy as all hell. (warning large images) EDIT: Have some glorious WWII action:

(warning large images) Oh yeah, I absolutely love the Ka-27 and variants, mainly the 27 and it's close relatives. Their bulbous, chunky shapes make them look so odd yet functional

Re: Airplanes
I prefer the sleeky choppers over the bulky, bubbly ones, although the Comanche is a bit too futuristic for me. It might be a bit vanilla, but the Apache is probably my favourite helicopter. What's the bot bomber? I think the middle one's a B-17 and the top one could be a B-25, but no idea about the nearest one. But if we're talking WW2, the P-40E Kittyhawk is my waifu.

The Hind and Super Hind also: Natti wrote: I prefer the sleeky choppers over the bulky, bubbly ones, although the Comanche is a bit too futuristic for me. As for the lower bomber, I believe it's a Consolidated B-24(J?) Liberator - if memory serves. What do you guys think of the F-35? EDIT: Ninja'd. Nicely done.

Re: Airplanes
Oh man, I didn't recall the Liberator being such a fatty.
I prefer the older twin-engine jets, to be frank. The F-35 looks too sleek and aerodynamic and futuristic and I don't really like it. Same with the F-22. Plane's gotta have some angles, yo. The F/A-18 Hornet is damn fine.

Re: Airplanes
I think you mean curves? F-35 has plenty of angles :p I don't really like them either, the new generation of jets. Preference for me goes out to most stuff from the 70s/80s
