Ok so I've made something and I'm showing it to this guy, basically a small scale publisher. He says that if my product is any good he'll sell it for me and give me half. I don't know anything about business, is this a good deal? The implication seems to be that this is the standard arrangement, but I'm really ignorant on the subject. How do I know he'll give pay me? Would it be bad of me to even ask?

contractual aggreements, and reading the contracts are kinda necessary.

I don't think half is very good, especially if he's only selling it.
If he's publishing it, as in printing/marketing/selling, then maybe.

Go to him again with 80/20. He's only selling it. However you still want him interested to work for you.
For pay, you go with him to the deal and present the item you're wanting to sell, then take the money and run off with it while he cries about how you betrayed him divide it later to give to him. Simple business.

I agree with mack, 50/50 is a bad deal probably.
