Re: The Lounge
I guess I just like controversy. Cats are way more independent than dogs, so yeah, dogs are a lot more needy. I guess it shows that dogs depend on strong relationships with the owner. Anyway, pets are pets. Can't argue whether dog-people are any better than cat-people or vice versa. I apologize for being cynical as ♥♥♥♥.

They aren't even that strong companion animals. I get that they're fluffy and hunt vermin, but dogs are far superior when it comes to practical use, companionship and the history of animal domestication. a pet does not have to be 'useful' to the human in order for it to be a good companion, most people that own dogs do not own them because of their usefulness, its for their companionship. you dont befriend people because of how useful they are (unless youre an actual sociopath), you befriend them for their personality, temperament, and good traits. dogs and cats all have very different temperaments from breed to breed and whats right for one person may not be right for another. there is no superior pet, it depends a great deal on the individuals lifestyle, so just do yourself a favor and stick a sock in it.

I read all of that along with WDTFS's beat. Fun times. I also have red cherry shrimp as pets. About as useful and engaging as a cat.

I'm honestly sorry for what I said, I have no idea what I was trying to prove with it.
I'll go ahead and diagnose myself with sociopathy, and I'm not even kidding.

Re: The Lounge
i don't see how what he said was really offensive at all because dogs really are more useful than cats as pets, even if most people don't get pets for their usefulness, just because someone does doesn't mean they're a sociopath or a bad person. like, you can use dogs for hunting or guarding, but i've never heard of cats doing the same thing. if those purposes are useful to you, you shouldn't feel bad for choosing a dog over a cat when it comes to getting a pet. that logic doesn't make sense to me. dogs tend to be really loyal with their owners, but it doesn't mean cats don't love their owners too. there is no "better" pet, but there are pets with more "practical" merit.for instance, owning a snake probably won't do anything for you other than companionship and ???maybe??? scaring burglars who are deathly afraid of snakes?? i don't want to make it seem like i don't value pets as companions or that owning a pet just for companionship is bad. i love animals. i mean, i want a snake and i just said they don't have much "practical" purpose. i wouldn't need any pet just for their useful merit, but i won't discredit people who get them for those reasons. Re: The Lounge
I love our Jämthund. Most people are a bit scared of it at first, since its appearance can be a bit intimidating. But it's probably the sweetest and calmest dog I know. It's always trying to climb into my lap, but it's so frikkin huge and heavy and ow. Once we saw a deer and chased it across a field. It was fun.

Re: The Lounge
im sorry i overreacted a tad, i wasnt trying to compare anyone to a sociopath i didnt see what 4zK had said right before i posted and by the time i had it was too late because i was leaving to go somewhere i just think its very close minded to claim there is a superior pet for any reason when its obvious that different pets hold different importance to different people, and i admit to being overly sensitive on the subject so i am going to withdraw myself now

Re: The Lounge
The domestication of cats provided a great boon to early farming societies as it provided an active means of defense against vermin. To a Bronze Age village entirely dependent on wheat for sustenance, this is much more important than it would initially appear to someone from the 21st century. No effective poisons existed at the time and mousetraps were several millennia too early to be a thing - that mangy ♥♥♥♥ that keeps hissing at everyone would be one of your most effective tools against starvation.
Both cats and dogs are practical animals to have around, but they're only useful in certain contexts.
I'd like to note, though, that cats have coevolved to a much smaller extent with humans than dogs have. They are much more likely to go feral and retain very solitary behavior.
(I have a cat.)

Re: The Lounge
I like cats better because they're pretty much self-sufficient. Occasionally they'll bother you because they want pets or something but most of the time they just do their own thing and I really like that. My experience with dogs is they're much more needy and will bother you constantly for attention and I've got stuff to do and they smell more than cats do.
So yeah, personal preference.

I'll go ahead and diagnose myself with sociopathy, and I'm not even kidding. self-diagnosis is bad yo get a shrink to check it out instead Stopping (or at least hampering) my constant and involuntary self-diagnosing has actually helped me a lot, i'm not nearly as much of a hypochondriac as i was before, and i'm generally just feeling better about myself when i'm not worrying about having every single mental and physical disorder ever. I have no doubt that i'm not quite right in the head, but i chalk that up to eccentricity for the most part. :U (i confess that i do play it up a bit because it's fun, but it is a legitimate part of my personality) also i didn't take any offense

Re: The Lounge
I'm not much of a pet person whatsoever.
Also, ate too much and now have a stomach ache but mostly my throat feels like it's on fire. I don't even know what I ate to cause that to happen.
