Post Re: Roll to Dodge - Fantasy
Capital city of the Terrisian nation.
the op wrote:
The Kingdom of Terris
The Kingdom of Terris, unlike the Empire, is much younger, only a few hundred years old. Being far from the Empire has spared them from the Empire's might, as well as a lack of shared interests keeps the two realms apart, or so the Empire thinks. A traditional kingdom, it is, at first glance, generally unremarkable. However, there are a few important things to remember about the Kingdom.

One - The people of the Kingdom are devoutly religious. Two - The death sentence for religious offences is fairly common. Three - They don't take too kindly to foreigners, especially Caniseans.

Terrisians believe themselves to be protected by the gods against the "demonic" "sacrilegious" "cursed" Empire of Canis Maximus. Led by a dynastic family of Paladins and an order of Holy Priests, they stand ready to fight against any who defy the will of their gods. Their holy priests, however, do have some semblance of power, with their own set of runes that only seem to work for them, and even then only in certain conditions. A massive rune, the size of a house and with a intricate weaving of runes across it's entire surface in a rune script not known to man, upon being tapped with soil will emit a shockwave, turning the normally barren soil under the Kingdom fertile. However, this must be done weekly, else the soil dies and with it will die the Kingdom of Terris.

Citizens of the Kingdom, however, don't always agree with their religious masters, but no one knows what will become of this...discontent. Whereas Caniseans perform honorable and glorious tasks as part of their good nature and to earn a place in the Afterlife, the Terrisian government performs strange rituals and deeds which allows the leader of their nation to see the will of the gods, or so they claim. Recently however, strange omens have started to emerge foretelling of a danger coming...

Terrisians can have the following traits.
Rune Merging - The Terrisian can grab two or more runes and with the correct incantations, merge them together. The rune script will be transformed and become unreadable, but the effects will not only be combined, but amplified. As with the earlier example of a Fire and Projection rune, when they are merged together instead of a gust of flames you will instead have a ball or beam of flame erupting from the rune stone.
Holy Reading - Don't let the name fool you, this is not to do with the reading of books, but rather the reading of minds. An ability commonly used by the Terrisian Inquisition, the player can read the mind of a person and discover their intents straight out of their mind in addition to all other useful information.
A True Prayer - The Terrisian can drop to their knees and pray to the gods for assistance. This can have quite the number of results. Praying in battle can result in military assistance, but the Terrisian can also pray at any other time for help in other matters. Depending on the will of the gods, they may or may not receive help and said help may or may not be useful.

Did some soul searching, got the weight off my shoulders. Let's get this thing back online.

"You should listen to the Wraith, Paladin. You taunt forces beyond your comprehension."
Bitter Pill wrote:
"Alaris, as one not alive and made of nothing I petition you. Is there nothing you find valuable here in this world? What pulled you from your path to squash a group of mites like ourselves? Leave us be. It would be like turning a knife on a microbe."

You say as the sonic waves depart. Alaris, without even trying, creates his own waves that neutralize your own. You'll have to make do with purely regular senses, your higher Wraith ones being neutralized. Is this how the biologicals sense the world? You pity them if so, since they'll never get to sense the true wonders of reality. But one sense remains functional. Your Wraith sense, the one that allows you to see into the immaterial realm at the same time as the physical one. It disturbs you to look upon Alaris with it, since you see a bigger manifestation of his power. Trails of energy that spread on for an eternity, a swirling maw of magical energy finding it's end within the singularity that is his heart... And something...else. Something that should not be there.

Alaris faces you and you sense as though he can see not only your physical manifestation, but also your other half in the immaterial realm. "Wraith, you know little of the material realm, as little as your companions know of the immaterial one. You have senses, yes, but do you have understanding?

"The answer is no. If you understood, you would not need to ask those questions."

You get a very, very strong feeling not to step onto his hand. Alaris laughs at what you said. Then states plainly, with not a hint of anger or any other emotion in his voice.

"I'm going to kill you a thousand times over. By the time I am done, you'll come to envy the dead. I think I'll start by ripping your head from your shoulders and using it to play skittles."

"Or perhaps taking your broken body back to your homeland for all to see."

Ashi III wrote:
"I'd be happy to have a beautiful girl like yourself tag along with us on our adventures!"

DM NOTE : Did this for a laugh.
Alaris does a double take in confusion before turning to the other dwarf.

"You thought the Paladin was broken, this one is even more so."

Orange wrote:
" Amelia!! Do you think yourself greater than the End-All, let alone your own gods, or the Harbinger's herald? Do you think that all of Terrisar would want, or need to withstand an inferno that not even your gods can defend against, for your petty games? "

You run up to Amelia yelling. The moment you reach her, you slap her.

You slap her hard and multiple times without remorse.

And you do that to your own companions. We're going to get along *splendidly* if we survive this.

Foa wrote:
"What leader-- Nay! What a miscreant street ladylike are you!? Your fervent piety is blind; your intents perverse, and desperate!"

You hurl a full out right punch and hit her square on the cheek which quickly starts to change colour.

Alaris laughs. "I might not get a chance to kill any of you the way this is going. Keep it up. Three min-"

A massive shield of light envelops into a dome around Alaris. He stops laughing and starts unshackling his true power. The massive shield-dome flickers under his onslaught.

"You think you can save yourselves with a pathetic little shield? No matter. Herald Isariaz, to me!"

In front of the shield, a cloud of darkness spreads. It contracts into the shape of a warrior, armed with chainmail and a nasty looking sword, as well as a shield.. He rams his sword into the stone and kneels infront of the shield containing Alaris.

"Herald Isariaz, you are the lowest of my servants. Prove your worth to me by destroying those seven and you shall be rewarded."

Herald Isariaz bows before the shield and says with the utmost respect, "As you will my lord."

He rips his blade from the stone and turns to the party. Ben runs up to form up with the assembled party group. "I've got your back, don't worry. He's the one who was taking out my people."

The Herald nods to the party and announces with contempt, "Alaris wishes you dead. Prepare to die." He makes a slash with his sword along the ground, creating a line.

Alaris, however, does not sit idle. He extends his a hand towards the shield and is charging some kind of energy orb. A ball of complete darkness, absorbing all light. It's growing slowly, the shield interfering with his ability to properly bring his power to bear.

Herald Isariaz

The Untested

Boss information :
1. Isariaz was the teleporting killer who destroyed most of the town's garrison forces one by one.
2. He is the weakest of Alaris' heralds being called the the Untested thanks to his lack of actual combat experience other than curbstomp fights.
3. Alaris is charging some kind of energy orb. You have ten turns before it is fully charged.

A voice speaks into your minds, I can't keep...this up long. Whatever it is, it sounds as if it's attention was elsewhere.

Stat sheet and modified map coming tomorrow, but I would recommend talking among yourselves.

See if I can conjure anything uncorrupted.

I think we should stay together and watch each other's backs. We have a few pure combat characters who should be able to take this guy down.

You try and conjure something small to see if you can get something to appear that isn't horrifically warped. Luckily, it appears the shield is blocking the effect and your conjuration abilities are normal.

Yes his name is Pubber now. Lead is Pb, so Pubber.

You clear your mind of your heretical thoughts and reach into Isariaz's mind. You sense that Alaris could actually protect Isariaz's mind, but that he seems to be fighting someone while charging his attack. Isariaz's mind is clear and easy to read, with little sign of panic. He's confident of success and hopeful of a good reward. But he does seem to be making his plan. He's most concerned about ranged fighters and plans to rely on his teleportation power to either outlast the group till Alisar finishes charging or to pick people off.

I'll teleport behind the woman with the javelins first so they lose a ranged fighter...Even if I don't kill her she's locked in melee.

You also see that he's looking back at memories of his fighter training and learn that he's a pretty good swordsman.

Learnt Isariaz traits.
Sword V - Damage with swords increased by 50%.
Teleporter - Can teleport around the battlefield.
Concerned about Ranged - Will target ranged players first.

Should he teleport while I'm attacking him, 180 degree turn and shield bash in the event that he switches to targeting me.

Conjure a glaive, engage blade dancing and wait for the knight to attack first before brutally murdering him.

You didn't hit her that hard. Just some bruising on her face.

I've got an idea. Up to you if you want to do it but it'll help. Do the Pact of Blood. That'll unlock another couple of pacts, but the one you want is the Pact of Control afterwards.

Get that pact and activate it.

DM NOTE : For the most part, pacts can be done between rolls. Actually using them once they've been done must be done in the roll, though.

Isariaz stat sheet. In case you want to plan.

DM NOTE : Other than CC, none of you are wearing proper armour. I'd recommend looting the blacksmith while Ben and CC keep the guy busy for a turn.

Ben turns to Amelia and says quietly, "I'm going for his sword arm, doesn't look like he has any proper armour there."

Ben's action - Close in, focus on his sword arm, see if I can't knock the blade from his hand.

Also, you saw Alaris' plate armour when he changed forms and tore Amelia's heart out. Therefore, his armour stats are as following, as well as one of his weapons that you saw.

Ancient Ultra-Heavy Draconic Plate Cuirass the Armour of Annihilation - 100 to 150 damage absorption - unknown enchantments.
Ancient Ultra-Heavy Draconic Plate Helmet the Crown of Conquest - 80 to 120 damage absorption - unknown enchantments.
Ancient Ultra-Heavy Draconic Plate Leggings the Sabatons of Slaughter - 80 to 120 damage absorption - unknown enchantments.
Ancient Ultra-Heavy Draconic Plate Gauntlets of the Eradicator - 80 to 120 damage absorption - unknown enchantments.

Oblivion - A large series of claws that are completely movable, like an extension of his hand. It functions as both a shield and a weapon, thanks to Alaris' reactions. 200 to 280 damage. Hundreds of thousands of people have perished to Oblivion, some say the weapon devours their souls.

By the way, all armour stats are added together for the purpose of attacks. But there isn't an armour wielding skill to make up for it and to hopefully stop armour getting too strong. When attacking a single mob who is too heavily armoured, each attack will start adding to that persons combat fatigue which will bring their stats down with each subsequent attack, so don't worry about an enemy with a hard shell. It'll increase in five percent increments, so all six players on one person attacking simultaneously will bring stats down 30% on the starting turn. Sixty on the next and ninety on the third. This onslaught of attacks will damage gear, too.

Damaged gear can be repaired by a trained blacksmith (Like Ashi) if they have the correct tools. You can't repair in combat as you can expect, but you can loot in the middle of a fight.

For an idea of what Alaris' armour looks like, here. The helmet is horned, but the horns go backwards, not straight up. Nor does it have red, merely various shades of grey and black. Or anywhere not covered in plate.

Are you activating the pact? I can't quite tell from your action, or if that's a consideration.
