Have you guys seen Dredd

Maybe the best action movie released in the past 10 years.

I wouldn't go that far, but it was a damn good movie. Would definitely watch a sequel.

Yeah, it was good. I feel like they actually made pretty good use of the 3D effects. It really helped to convey the feeling of slo-mo.

I also thought it was neat how the violence was really unpleasant — not ludicriously so, but also not toned down like it is in a lot of action moves (e.g. dude gets shot, bleeds a bit and moves on). Watching people being shot in the face was actually kind of unsettling, as it should be.

If you guys liked Dredd you might like Raid: Redemption which is also about fighting through an apartment building and shares a lot of similar scenes.

Reminded me a lot of Paul Verhoeven style action, haven't really seen anything like it since Starship Troopers.

Violence ain't pretty, it is however extremely satisfactory in a very primal sense. Kind of like a car crash. It will be unpleasant, but you will stare at it and gawk at the aftermath in anticipation.

I have watched raid redemption, however it's a very different animal. It's more of a single man who overthrows everything type of deal. That along with the twist. Eh, don't get me wrong, it's a pretty good movie, however it could've been done better.

I have to say that the fascist subtext underlying the heroism in Dredd really does a lot for the action in the movie. It's like, rich and compelling, man.

Went to see the Lego Movie yesterday. If you haven't yet and you've ever played with lego or watched lego stop-motion videos or whatever, go see it sometime, it's really well done! I saw it in 3D, and though it's not a must, it does add to the feel of it. It all just looks like real lego, from the individual pieces to the huge environments and the way things move. Seeing it in 3D sorta enhances that feel of it being real.
