Really love that barracks. You even got it down to the tiniest of details.

im in a bad mood but i feel like sharing this, it's a wip of something me and my friend are collaborating together on and i think its coming along nicely so far :) critiques & suggestions welcomed but keep in mind that a) this is currently a very rough draft and b) only half of this is/will be my own work.
i did the initial sketch and gave a sample colour palette, she layed down a lot of the painting and i've been tweaking it. when i'm finished refining details and stuff ill have her go back and fix up textures and foliage because she has better brushes than i do ahahh.

That's ♥♥♥♥ amazing already! In fact, the style reminds me a lot of Rayman Legends, which is very high praise in my book, given that i absolutely adore the art style of that game. c:

oh sheesh @ above comments, thank you so much! wasnt expecting such positive reactions haha

i love the colours used for that painting, shook! the subtle purple tones on the rocks really add to the mood. i did notice the perspective could use a little work, for example the path of broken rocks in the center of the lava pool looks like theyre going downwards rather than coming towards you, the should gradually be getting larger as they get closer
i would also like to see some more going on in the very background, perhaps far away mountains/plateaus to frame the scene
as for fine detailing its mainly all about textures, go do small studies (they can be like 5 minutes or less each) from photos to learn how rocks, mountains, and lava look and 'feel' (dont touch lava), then do a few larger studies (10-15 minutes each) see how the two interact together naturally. this is something im still working on too, its overwhelming to add detail to objects in an entire scene without first intimately understanding the individual objects themselves

mhm

yes

That is unquestionably the most useless comment i've ever received for anything ever, and i've received a lot of useless comments. See, i wouldn't mind it if you told me WHY it was sub par and HOW to fix it, but right now you just come off as a jackass with nothing better to do than to try and push his unreasonable anger onto others. I know you're better than that, Mackerel, so please stop trying to convince me otherwise.

Oh man, this is extremely useful, thanks! Might try to rectify some of those things in the near future. It's actually a bit funny regarding rocks, because having studied geology for two years, one should think that i'd know how a rock looks and feels. But do i really? Nope. :U
Perhaps my downfall is that i've seen how super different rocks can look, and can't really think of a proper "generic" rock as a result. For example, compare eclogite and pumice (both of which aren't the most common of rocks), or for some more common rock types, gneiss, conglomerate and basalt. For the most part though, you could probably get away with calling things granite, sandstone or basalt. (potentially also limestone but most people don't think "MASSIVE WHITE CLIFFS" when they hear "rock")
But anyways, i digress and ramble about rocks, thanks once again for the valuable feedback! I definitely do need to work on my perspective, yeah.

I can tell you that you have absolutely no reason to be embarrassed at all, because even your Paint doodles are wonderful to behold. Also, as Roast said, that owl is super legit. The amount of detail put into that entire painting is excellent. Normally i'd at least TRY to offer something constructive, but i can't put my finger on anything at all, so props on that. c:

also re: embarrassing

the surface of this planet is embarrassing

HOW DO I PLANET

addendum: Oh yeah also a couple more painty things:
