Ettiin: "See if you can find anything on ancient caelum artifacts or artifacts from before the cataclysm."

Koa: "And a giant beast related to the corruption as well."

"I'm not entirely sure, my tiny winged friend."

Search for some sort of object that can function as a rope.

"Cihas, is there anything on your end that can help us out?"

Collecting a large number of vines nearby, you tie them into a single rope, lash one end to a nearby tree, and throw the other end into the hole. Feiar and Isaac climb their way up out of the earth and back onto level ground.

> You get up and head to the shelves, looking for the sections that contain the Master Smith Kaminus and Species Born from Corruption books. It takes you some time to find them, and you have to use a sliding ladder running along a rail mounted to the shelf to grab the boxes that contain them.

Walking back your table, you inspect your finds:

The Master Smith of Kaminus isn't a book, or if it was, isn't one anymore. It's reduced to several ancient, rotted pieces of paper, smelling of strange chemicals used to keep it preserved. The text written either isn't a language you understand or is just written in a style you aren't familiar with, but luckily there's another paper in the box that appears to be a scholar's notes and translation.

Kaminus, according to the translation, was a young girl who, along with two of her sisters, fell from the sky. They resembled humans, but their skin was pale and their eyes were unusual colors, with Kaminus's being yellow. Under the care of the primary Caelum sect (which was the only one at that time), Kaminus learned to craft weapons embued with magic, and eventually became known as the most skilled craftsmen in the world. Many of her weapons were used in the War of Blades, though most of them were destroyed during and after the war.

Putting down the papers and opening the box labeled "Species Born from Corruption," you find that it's an actual book this time, though it looks even older than the last item. Carefully cracking open the hefty tome, you find sheets of papers inserted at almost every page with text, containing notes and translations again. There are detailed drawings of strange creatures you've never seen before, except for a handful that look almost exactly like the dragons that exist in modern times. Flipping back to the front quarter of the book where the general information is written, you skim over -

A species "born from corruption" come about when chaos magic creates a stable mutation of a currently existing organism that is capable of reproducing. They tend to be more resistant to further corruption than regular organisms, and a small percentage of them develop the ability to cast magic when their original organism was not able to.

Larger mutants (as the book describes them) were noted to having crystaline masses grow inside of them that have a similar strcture to mage stones, allowing a large amount of charged magic energy to be stored. Mutants were often hunted for their internal mage stones, which led to a drastic decline in the mutant population and the extinction of numerous species.

Going back to the middle of the book with illustrations and descriptions of specific species, you quickly flip through until the pages turn blank about three fourths of the way through the book.

Turning to the last written page, you're met with a drawing of large, furred beast that has a dog's head, and the body, limb, and tail shape of a bulky lizard. Curled ram-like horns sprout from the sides of the beast's head, and the ends of all of its fingers and toes end in sharp, thick, curved claws.

While the other illustrations had the beasts in their habitats with drawings of trees or rivers or grassy plains, this one appears to be standing on what appears to be a field of cubic rocks, coming no higher than the beast's feet. With a closer look, you realize that they're not rocks, but houses.

You look around the chamber for anything that can function as a rope, but there isn't anything like that.

"Cihas, is there anything on your end that can help us out?"

Cihas: "Give me a sec, maybe there's enough vines around here."

Cihas disappears from view, and after a minute or two, a long, sturdy vine falls through the hole. Feiar climbs up and out, and you follow her soon after, the both of you quickly making it to the surface.

Standing there waiting is Cihas, and the three of you appear to be in a small clearing in the forest.

"So, Mr. Cihas. Do you have any idea where we could be?"

Look for any interesting landmarks in the near vicinity.

The three of you walk around, looking for anything of interest. After a bit of random wandering through the forest, your trio comes upon a massive clearing that looks like it has a town full of dome-like structures.

It looks deserted.

"This text seems like it might explain those creatures we fought."

Koa, and then Ettiin, walk over to your table, carrying items that they retrieved themselves while you set your book down for both to see.

Koa: "Hmm, a stable mutation."

Ettiin: "Is that what I am?"

Ettiin clicks her wing-bone claws together curiously.

Koa: "I guess so? I don't know if your children will inherit your claws though. Anyways, this corruption started not even a week ago, and it seems unlikely that a stable mutant would have been produced this early, and reproduce in such quantities."

Ettiin: "Maybe it got lucky. Or someone was intentionally trying to stabilize one?"

There's a moment of silence while Koa thinks to herself while calmly flipping through your book, which is quickly interupted by Ettiin's wing bones pounding into the table as she sets down a set of documents with sudden enthusiasm.

Ettiin: "OH! Remember when Garett said that the Lucida weapon laid waste to the Vigilant Guardian, and the task force leader that was attempting to capture the Blizzard weapon said that they believe the cause of this event was a chaos weapon? Well, this paper here says that the Guardian used to be a Caelum prison with a large number of magic-neutralizing cells to contain mages, and I'm wondering if this 'chaos weapon' the task force leader was talking about was stored there, and then freed."

Koa: "So there's two of them running around?"

Ettiin: "Along with Blizzard. Wasn't Lord Elizabeth's glaive one as well? Anyways -"

She flips to another paper -

Ettiin: "This one says something about ancient artifacts, originating from before the cataclysm, being dug up and messed around with. Something or other happened and they caused the first corruption event. There aren't really any other details, this paper is faded and full of holes."

Koa: "Anything else?"

Ettiin: "Nope, that's all I have so far."

Koa: "Alright. I found that there was a particular beast in the first corruption that radiated chaos energy from its body, and was the reason why the corruption event lasted as long as it did. It doesn't say how, or if, it was killed, but I assume they managed somehow. If this event is similar, then we'd have to slay this beast and then neutralize its source of chaos energy if it persists after death."

Ettiin: "And then capture the chaos weapon that caused this?"

Koa: "Yes. Though, I'm wondering why the weapon brought this about in the first place. The one we encountered - Blizzard - seemed human-like. I wonder if the chaos weapon can be reasoned with, or at least get it to explain why it did what it did."

Ettiin: "So are we done here? Do we need anything else?"

Investigate one of the domes.

I don't see a map as necessary, but if enough people want one I won't object.
