Cihas, is there anything on your end that can help us out?""Give me a sec, maybe there's enough vines around here."Collecting a large number of vines nearby, you tie them into a single rope, lash one end to a nearby tree, and throw the other end into the hole. > You get up and head to the shelves, looking for the sections that contain the Master Smith Kaminus and Species Born from Corruption books. It takes you some time to find them, and you have to use a sliding ladder running along a rail mounted to the shelf to grab the boxes that contain them.
Walking back your table, you inspect your finds:
The Master Smith of Kaminus isn't a book, or if it was, isn't one anymore. It's reduced to several ancient, rotted pieces of paper, smelling of strange chemicals used to keep it preserved. The text written either isn't a language you understand or is just written in a style you aren't familiar with, but luckily there's another paper in the box that appears to be a scholar's notes and translation.
Kaminus, according to the translation, was a young girl who, along with two of her sisters, fell from the sky. They resembled humans, but their skin was pale and their eyes were unusual colors, with Kaminus's being yellow. Under the care of the primary Caelum sect (which was the only one at that time), Kaminus learned to craft weapons embued with magic, and eventually became known as the most skilled craftsmen in the world. Many of her weapons were used in the War of Blades, though most of them were destroyed during and after the war.
Putting down the papers and opening the box labeled "Species Born from Corruption," you find that it's an actual book this time, though it looks even older than the last item. Carefully cracking open the hefty tome, you find sheets of papers inserted at almost every page with text, containing notes and translations again. There are detailed drawings of strange creatures you've never seen before, except for a handful that look almost exactly like the dragons that exist in modern times. Flipping back to the front quarter of the book where the general information is written, you skim over -
A species "born from corruption" come about when chaos magic creates a stable mutation of a currently existing organism that is capable of reproducing. They tend to be more resistant to further corruption than regular organisms, and a small percentage of them develop the ability to cast magic when their original organism was not able to.
Larger mutants (as the book describes them) were noted to having crystaline masses grow inside of them that have a similar strcture to mage stones, allowing a large amount of charged magic energy to be stored. Mutants were often hunted for their internal mage stones, which led to a drastic decline in the mutant population and the extinction of numerous species.
Going back to the middle of the book with illustrations and descriptions of specific species, you quickly flip through until the pages turn blank about three fourths of the way through the book.
Turning to the last written page, you're met with a drawing of large, furred beast that has a dog's head, and the body, limb, and tail shape of a bulky lizard. Curled ram-like horns sprout from the sides of the beast's head, and the ends of all of its fingers and toes end in sharp, thick, curved claws.
While the other illustrations had the beasts in their habitats with drawings of trees or rivers or grassy plains, this one appears to be standing on what appears to be a field of cubic rocks, coming no higher than the beast's feet. With a closer look, you realize that they're not rocks, but houses.

>
"I'm not entirely sure, my tiny winged friend."You look around the chamber for anything that can function as a rope, but there isn't anything like that.
"Cihas, is there anything on your end that can help us out?"Cihas:
"Give me a sec, maybe there's enough vines around here."Cihas disappears from view, and after a minute or two, a long, sturdy vine falls through the hole. Feiar climbs up and out, and you follow her soon after, the both of you quickly making it to the surface.
Standing there waiting is Cihas, and the three of you appear to be in a small clearing in the forest.
