Avira's typically gotten good scores in AV roundups.
I use AVG though.

I've used AVG and MSE in the past, got no problems with either.

MSE is the only answer for antivirus
AVG is only good when you pay for it
Avast is TERRIBLE. It is NOT the AV it used to be. DO NOT GET IT
Avira is the good free alternative if you hate MSE for some reason and love ads
NOD32 is solid paid, less clunky than AVG I hear

I remember when MSE first came out it was like "Wait these guys made IE? Really? How did they make something GOOD?"
