Now taking auditions for my lawless street gang. Must live in the greater Atlanta metropolitan area, be proficient with guns, OK with leather, and good at synchronized dancing.

Government Shutdown happened. Glad they're not shutting down security services.

Re: The Lounge
The battle theme from The Showdown Effect has been stuck in my head for months. I've been having fun making music for Magnaut, so I figured I'd try recreating the song by ear using the same instrument set. It went pretty well! ...But now the song is even further stuck in my head. Dammit.

Re: The Lounge
Hey TLB, compared to American congress, how problematic is Canadian politics? What is the economy like?

Re: The Lounge
Canadian politics has its issues.
The main thing right now is that the Conservative (our right-wing) party holds the majority of seats in parliament (our equivalent of congress). In the US, this isn't a huge issue, because your politicians can vote against their own party. Here, politicians have to vote along party lines or risk losing their jobs. So basically, a Conservative majority means that they automatically win just about every vote, and the opposition can't do anything about it. Until the next federal election in 2015, we're more or less stuck with them pushing through whatever Stephen Harper wants. This is kind of scary, because they've been passing some huge bills regarding the internet and the environment and nobody can stop them.
Another problem that's been making people grumpy lately is our senate. It pretty much exists to pass through whatever comes to it — they seldom actually shut down a bill, so their effect on the government is negligible. We're paying 105 of them to do very little, and a bunch of scandals are coming to light in which they've somehow found even more efficient ways of wasting taxpayer money.
That said, our economy is doing pretty well, so it's not all bad. As long as Alberta keeps producing oil, there's generally enough money to go around. It's not like we're rolling in dough or anything — and right now, we're in more of an oil bust period than a boom — but we don't have any Detroits happening yet, so I'd say we're weathering the economic downturn pretty well.
It's also worth noting that the Conservative party is in a lot of ways more left-wing than the Democrats are, so our politics tend to be more liberal than in the US, even with a Conservative majority.

I really want to live in Vancouver. And LA, and Portland, and Seattle. I mean it, I'll live in a shithole in Santa Monica just to be in LA.
