You look around, trying to figure out which way is up. It looks like you're already face up, back to the ground, and you're quite tangled in vines. Thankfully your bow didn't fall out of your hands when you fell, but there's no way you can draw it in this position and with all of the vines around you.

To make things worse, the sound of a rampaging dragon in the tree canopy is coming closer to you.

Conditions :

Mist manages to dispatch of the hulk that was attacking him, and Aucupe rids your party of the final two.

Torrent: We'd better hurry before we get swarmed out in the open.

Conditions :
- Whirlwind Armor (+2 Physical Actions)

> With Echo Helm, you locate the enemy dragon. It's close, but not close enough for you to be able to quickly get within striking range, so you start climbing up the branches of the trees. Once you reach a certain point, they're too weak to support your weight, and you're still a good distance from breaking through the canopy.

Looking towards the sound of the rampaging dragon, you see Cihas not too far away, tangled in a mass of vines. There aren't any branches below him, so falling would most certainly result in a red smear on the forest floor.

To make things worse, the sound of the dragon is coming closer to Cihas, and Echo Helm isn't picking up where Nacht is.

Conditions :
- Bruised stomach (-1 Physical actions)

The beast falls back, slain, and your allies clean up the rest of the enemies.

Torrent: We'd better hurry before we get swarmed out in the open.

Conditions :

- Partially underground

> "The frontline is ours! You with me, Enku?"

Ettiin: "You bet!"

You and Ettiin take to the front, and in moments a beast is pouncing towards you. Quickly stepping to the side, you bash its head with the flat of your blade, knocking it into the ground, and then spin about and hack through its side as it tumbles past you.

Ettiin gives her foe an uppercut in the jaw, sending it into the air, and then brings her greatsword down on the head of the next beast before pointing her weapon skyward. Her first opponent is impaled through the midsection before being flung to the side, still alive but seemingly disabled.

A thin beam of light appears between you and Ettiin, hitting the next closest creature with a small explosion, and the final creature takes off and runs out of sight.

Ettiin: "Five corrupted that look exactly the same."

Koa walks over to the beast that Ettiin had disabled, which is weakly trying to drag itself away.

Koa: "They're not corrupted. Not anymore. We need to get back to the spire."

Taking the lead, Koa runs towards the capital building with you, Ettiin, and Garett following behind, leaving the beast alone. She has her shortsword out, ready to defend herself with it, but you doubt it'll be of much use to someone of her physical build.

Garett: "If they're not corrupted, then what are they?"

Koa: "They've stabilized. They might have been corrupted at one point, but they aren't anymore."

It isn't long before your party reaches the wall surrounding the spire, which is now in rubble. The bodies of the same type of beasts litter the area, along with other creatures that look like variants of the creatures.

Rushing across the corpse-strewn plaza, your party makes it to the entrance of the spire, where you're greeted by a large number of humans and chirop with weapons and charged magic at the ready.

???: "Hey, that's Tsinthula's task force! Let her in!

Go see the Magister, she's expecting you."

The group at the entrance splits and Koa, along with the rest of you, quickly head through, up the stairs, and onto the second floor, where the Magister is talking to a human and a chirop.

Kiiraki: "Koa!"

Koa: "I'll handle this."

Koa walks over to the Magister, leaving you with Ettiin and Garett. There aren't many people on this floor, and there seem to be much fewer people total overall since last time you were here, from what you remember. Of the people on this floor, you recognize one of them as Hakau, who walks over to you.

Hakua: "Hey. How'd that mission go?"

> Both you and Feiar fire at the closest creature, not killing it, but wounding it enough for it to fall and hit another creature along the way.

The final beast, however, rapidly scrambles up the trunk and lashes at Griffore with unnatural speed. Griffore backs up too late and gets a nasty gash on his shoulder before flicking his tail at the beast, launching several black quills that embed themselves in the beast's hide and sending it falling to the ground.

Griffore: "Your metal bolts can pierce their hides, but not deep enough to kill them."

Griffore brings the end of his tail beside you and Feiar, where you can see the collection of arm-length black quills.

Griffore: "Try shooting these. They're poisonous so try not to ♥♥♥♥♥ yourselves with them."

More creatures are reaching the tree and climbing up, five of them already starting to climb up and the rest of them on the ground. Griffore carefully backs up higher into the tree, keeping his wounded arm from use.

You look downtrodden as you reply to Hakua.

"Not well, I'm afraid. Our quarry proved... difficult to stop."

Hakua: "Hmm. At least you came back. Another task force was sent to assist you, and only two of the nine returned. So I guess your team is pretty high-cut."

Koa returns from the Magister with an appearance of urgency.

Koa: "There's been a new wave of beasts attacking the city, coming from the east. There's a second wave incoming according to scouts and we need to hold the spire as best as we can. Civilians are on the third and fourth floors and we cannot let a single beast slip past."

To make urgent matters more urgent, you hear a shout from the first floor.

???: "They're here!"

> You carefully freeze the vines restricting your arms and legs, being sure to not to damage the ones around your torso. It's a little awkward working while being dangled in the air, but eventually the right ones are frozen, and to make things better, the sound of the dragon becomes more and more distant.

However, the vines holding your limbs suddenly break, and you drop several feet in free-fall before the vines around your torso suddenly tighten. Looking up, you see three vines connecting you to the canopy, and you're not too sure how long they'll be able to hold.

> You hurry forward with Mist and Aucupe.

It isn't long before you come upon a large gathering of corrupted. One of them is much larger than the others, lookling like a massive bulky lizard the size of a house covered in scaley plates. It lets out a deep roar, the air vibrating with strange energy as it does.

The sound of the dragon tearing apart the canopy gets closer and closer, until you hear what sounds like the green dragon's spiral breath cutting through the foilage. There's a roar followed by a powerful beating of wings, and the dragon starts to sound further and further away.

Meanwhile, Cihas managed to release his arms and legs from the vines, but now the only three vines that are supporting him are wrapped firmly around his torso, and they look like they could give at any moment.

You, Koa, Ettiin, Garett, and Hakua rush down one side of the stairs while the Magister and the remaining able-bodied mages take the other side.

Once you descend enough for the gate to be visible, there's a large explosion and a large number of the mages fall or retreat back as a large number of beasts muscle their way in, ripping apart any human or chirop in the way.

> You grab a handful of the quills from the side, load one into your crossbow, and fire at a beast. Feiar does the same, and two of the monsters fall off of the tree trunk and thrash on the ground before laying dead.

The light in front of Griffore's snout gets brighter, almost blinding you. With a flick of his head, Griffore tosses the ball down in the ground at the base of the tree. There's an explosion of heat followed by a small blast wave that nearly throws you and Feiar upward.

Griffore makes another ball of light in front of his snout to survey the damage, and it looks like the rest of the beasts are either dead or fried.

Griffore: "Alright, better get moving before they get multiplying."

The over-sized weasel carefully but quickly climbs down the tree and heads east again, you and Feiar bouncing along.

Griffore: "So, what's a human doing out in these parts? Haven't you ever heard of those stories about humans going into the forest and never returning?"

Your mount lets out a chuckle as he bounds through the forest, no enemies in earshot.

"I was supposed to be on some sort of vacation before all of... this happened. I ended up finding Feiar here, and we went to the capital to find help. After helping kill a dragon, we joined an evacuation team with the others that you met before. One ambush later, and you found us."

Make idle traveling conversation.
