Real. The katana has a lot of good reviews, a good (probably best) blade for its price. The foil is a sporting foil that has been sharpened on a sharpening block.

I'd prefer an older rapier, they weren't much of a spike at the time.

Hot damn, that must've cost a pretty penny. I've always wanted a proper Katana.

Mack: That's p sweet. You should clean it up, polish and sharpen that thing if it isn't already nice and sharp.

Major: I'd say a nice Bowie knife or a khukuri have more practical use, and don't require as much maintenance or practice to use as a katana. I'll be getting myself a good khukuri/bowie knife soon enough.

Foa: I'd like an older style rapier too, but it's hard trying to find one that isn't just for display or one that's a rusty antique over a thousand USD.

P much. I just had an easier time finding katanas than other swords. I'd much like a nice well-made rapier colichemarde, but that's going to take a while.

Meh, I don't expect it to do much against contemporary European swords.
[I wouldn't use it against dragon swords]

Anyways, Mackerel, where is that avatar from, Popsicle fellatio is very enticing

It's a durable poking stick. Sure, it won't break the sturdier European swords, but it can put holes in things and will mostly stay intact.

I thought that Japanese armour was made out of lacquered wood and leather for the most part, which the katana is very capable of slicing through.
Also, dunno how realistic this is, but five seconds of Y-Tubs equals:
