The smart thing to do here WOULD be to run back and let the more heavily armed guys handle this. The heroic thing would be to dive in and fight anyway.

You activate the Harpoon's mechanism, quickly reeling in the line and tightening the line. God, there's a lot to go through. You hope you get it tight before the ferret has a chance to move forward and hurt anyone.
After a few more moments, the line twangs and slows down a lot as the slack is depleted, and it now attempts to pull against the ferret. Despite being a big piece of machinery that multiplies force, the ferret is mighty, and the mechanism is starting to grind in protest. Bastard can really pull...
You switch it off, locking the wheel in place and preventing any more line from going out. Well, you've managed to restrict how much the ferret can travel on the deck.

Tomaster (James Tiber) [9]:
♥♥♥♥ guns. Now's the time to get manly.
You drop your cannon, and bring out your sword after the captain gets sent overboard. Preparing yourself for a painful fight, you're surprised to see the ferret get yanked back by the cable in its chest. The mage must be winding him in! While the animal's distracted, you jump forward and give it a quick slash to an exposed bit, then leap back, narrowly dodging a claw swipe.
It roars in pain and frustration as you repeat the motion, jumping forward, attacking, and jumping out of the way narrowly before his attack connects. That armor probably increases the force it can hit with, but no way is it light. The ferret must be greatly slowed down by it.
Gaining a bit of bravery, you leap forward again, closer this time, and deliver a well aimed slash straight across its face (9+1=10), getting it in the eyes. It gives an enormous roar of pain, before going berserk, and flailing its claws wildly at the area in front of it.
Chunks of decking and entire pieces of board go flying as huge gouges and holes in the deck appear as a result of its rage.
Hoo boy. Well, not even you could dodge THAT. You'll stick back for a moment.

Game Events: The ferret rages, now blinded both physically and by pain, rears back after reducing a semi circular swath of deck in front of it to splinters and slams down, damaging the deck even further. It's going to fall through at this rate...

The ferret once more takes to the air, despite being tethered to the damage ship, and floats out in front again.

A VERY large magic circle appears above the ship, bigger than the ship is even.
