Well, then you're sort of shoehorning the two together, rather than having a single consistent universe.
It can be done, but the more cooks in the kitchen, the more likely it is something's gonna catch on fire.

It's not really shoehorning if you take the effort to execute it properly. :???:

If that was "shoehorning" then I'll eat my ♥♥♥♥ optical mouse.

Assuming the elements are blended effectively in that manner, you're going to get a good result regardless of whether or not multiple people had to collaborate to do it.

Get eatin' then.
That was a well done example, but it's still a solution to get around the problem of "♥♥♥♥, we didn't communicate while world-building, now we've got a plot hole."
Multiple DMs can work, but as I said, the more that are involved, the greater the chance of a head idea-collision.

If your worldbuilding group isn't communicating during the process, then the group as a whole needs a solid smack upside the head. If you're going to go on a group project like that and not communicate at all, what's the point?

Touché, sir.

But really, if you bother to communicate in the first place it shouldn't be a problem. :???:

Well, if communicating your views on the entirety of a universe were so easy, hell, we wouldn't have a LOT of the world's problems.

Oy. I have more overcomplicated nonsensical stuff to throw at you guys.

Since I appear to be getting close to my goal of making a fully functional semi-realistic roleplaying system, I'm becoming a bit afraid of the problems that stats pose.... Mainly, I don't know how to decide what stats to give to enemies that the players could be facing. For example, I don't want to set a troll whose stats were predetermined loose on the party only to watch helplessly as my own rules get the team completely wiped because the enemy was simply too strong for them. Nor do I want to allow a decisive battle end up a cakewalk because I made a miscalculation in how powerful a boss needed to be.

I don't want to hear "stop making everything so complicated"; I've come too far to have all these plans come to naught... but I need to figure something out.

It's not that I wouldn't mind dropping all the complex rulesets and running a traditional RtD... it's just that traditional RtD lets the DM decide too much. I would feel guilty every time I decide to injure a player's weapon-hand, or choose when a player finally dies from their wounds.... That's why I wanted a rule-bound system in the first place - because no-one could argue with it, DM included....

Well, I'm just babbling at this point. Feel free to post any thoughts, I guess.

You just have to hope your players are competent enough not to dump all of their skill points into cooking.

Also, players will generally be in different roles, like someone a tank and another guy the heavy hitter and another who's a ranged guy, so you can hope that when the team is against a powerful boss, there's at least one guy who can put a hole in the boss's armor so the other guys have a standing chance.

I really HOPE that people will select different roles and not all pick mage or something. That'd be problematic.

Also, how did you know cooking was going to be an actual skill? (Not even kidding)

Dunno bout those other two, but I'm thinking that cooking would let you make awesome foods that rewarded you with buffs, sorta like Monster Hunter.

Singing will NOT be a skill. But there will almost certainly be song and/or dance. Because why not.

Basket-Weaving? Is that even used commonly in games?
