"What's wrong with the magic shop?"

Erale: "I wouldn't mind a look at the shops."

Bartender: "The magic shop's just an antique store run by a crazy 'magician' who claims that the objects are enchanted. Only a fool would believe in what that man says, scheming dimmer people out of their money."

You ask the man if the smith needs another person capable of pouring metal into shape.

???: "Now that you mention it, we have a particularly large order that just came in. The town's guard needs a large number of new halberds and armor. I don't know your skill at metal working, but we were looking for someone who could help with refining ore. A simple but long job, the pay is nice, though it might not be what you're looking for."

After a bit of walking around, you find the find the magic shop. It has large windows displaying old and mystical artifacts, and a wooden sign above the door has the words "Magical Items and Antiques" carved in and painted with a cracking white paint.

Opening the door and letting yourself in, you're greeted by a man sitting behind a counter to the right of the door.

???: "Welcome, good sir. Is there anything in particular that you're looking for today?"

You ask the man if they have any magical quivers or bags to store weight.

???: "Why, yes I do!"

The man walks out from behind the counter to the left wall, rifling through a pile of leather bags, and pulls out a leather quiver and a leather pouch.

The quiver looks rather... Ordinary, but the pouch has some runic symbols imprinted on it.

???: "This quiver was used by an old native of this land, a masterful archer. He was killed in battle, and his blood spilled on this quiver, and his spirit posessed this quiver as well, giving it strange properties!

This pouch here looks like it's made of ordinary cow hide, but is in fact made from the hide of a monster bull that was slayed by a hero of old. There goes a legend that the hero had once dropped his bag in a lake and the bag sank to the bottom, and after several hours, the lake had completely drained. When the hero went into the lake bed and picked up his bag, he turned it upside down and the entire lake fell right out of the bag!"

You stay seated, taking in the conversation.

Light-haired girl: "What's wrong with the magic shop?"

Erale: "I wouldn't mind a look at the shops."

"I'd like to sign up."

???: "For the town guard?"

You elaborate that you want to join the "military."

???: "Well, this town doesn't have a military force. We're not in war either. But, if you're looking for some sort of action,"

The man points to the board to your left, which is covered with papers of various beasts.

???: "Those are bounties on local beasties and criminals around here. I reckon that might be something you'd be interested in?"

Looking at the board, you see that they aren't regular wild animals, but unusually large or fearsome ones, such as a giant feral hog, a large serpentine creature that lurks in the river nearby, and other monsters.

What catches your attention the most is the paper in the center of the board with a picture of a man with a scar running over his right eye with a bounty of 1000 gold, the highest bounty on the board.

Continue my inquiry.

"May I have a closer look? A short test run, if you will? Also, what are the prices on these things?"

Erale stands up and pats your shoulder before heading to the door.

Erale: "..Hopefully the artificer isn't batshit..."

You leave the bar and quickly pass Erale to take the lead. You're the boss, after all.

~

It takes a bit of walking around as the sun sets and it turns to night, but the two of you finally find the magic shop. It's a wooden building with a sign above the door reading "Magical Items and Antiques" with various old-looking items displayed in the window.

Walking in, you find some old coot in a robe and pointy hat talking to Vesh.

You follow the man through the doorway at the back of the room. On the other side is an even larger room, about ten times the size, with two furnaces at the close and far left corners, an array of tools on tables in the middle, and a large number of crates.

Each crate is a 2-by-2-by-2 wooden container made of planks.

???: "Twenty-five crates of ore. You get 10 gold per crate you refine. I'll be working alongside with you. Oh, name's Lark by the way."

The man hauls one of the crates over to one of the furnaces, which is already dimly glowing red. A few steps on a pedal works the bellows and brings the furnace into a firey awakening.

With a crowbar in hand, Lark pulls off the top of the crate, revealing it packed full of grey-looking rocks. With tongs and hammer in hand, he grabs one rock of ore, heats it in the furnace until it's nice and red, brings it over the anvil by his furnace, and pounds the rock with his hammer while black flakes fall off from it, repeating the process a few times before adding another piece of ore and repeating again. After enough repititions, he has a red-hot ingot which he places by his furnace.

Lark: "We'd normally use crucibles to heat all this and smelt ore in bulk, but we don't have any crucibles at the moment, and the ones we've ordered aren't coming in until next week, so we're stuck with this slow-ass method for now."

You give a shrug. Grabbing a crate, crowbar, tongs, and hammer, you start you work at the second furnace, repeating what Lark did. Heat up furnace, pry open a crate, heat up a rock of ore, beat the impurities out of it, add another piece of ore, and repeat until you have an ingot the same shape and size as Lark's. Dropping beside your furnace, you look at your crate, which still has plenty of ore left.

~

After a fair amount of beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of rocks and metal, your crate is empty and 7 ingots are cooling beside your furnace, with Lark already opening his second one.

You - 1 crate
Lark - 1 crate
Remaining - 23 crates

???: "Of course, have a closer look! Also, the quiver is 10 gold, and the pouch is 15 gold."

The man hands you the items. Both of them do look quite old, but sturdy and in useable condition.

- Ancient Tribe Quiver (Weight : 0.2) (Passive : +1 AIM) - Can carry twenty arrows, negating their weight.
- Hero's Bag (Weight : 0.3) - ???

The two of them head in, with you standing outside to remain... Sneaky.

???: "I've got copies of those posters, somewhere... Ah, well, here's three. Guess you can come back once you have those finished."

The man gives you three bounty posters.

Great Boar - 50 gold - Proof of Kill: Head
River Troll - 70 gold - Proof of Kill: Head or Hide
Bigass Catfish - 30 gold - Proof of Kill: Body

???: "Here's a map... Or, part of one. Lemme write some stuff on it for ya."

The man scribbles on what looks like the piece of a map before handing it to you.
