Re: The Lounge
I'm pretty interested in Destiny because I've always been a fan of Bungie. I'm not just referring to Halo, I enjoy pretty much all of their games, the Marathon Series, Myth, Oni, they've done good ♥♥♥♥.

I wouldn't buy a console if 90% of the games are ♥♥♥♥, even if the remaining 10% are absolute GEMS. Anyway, you're going to miss good things no matter what you end up doing. Duh just chose to miss the one that he sees more ♥♥♥♥ and less good on.

Typical of "indie retro" gamers to polarize their stance on everything. Advertising for mainstream video games is as bad as hype for mediocre pixel games. Try focusing on things that aren't commercialism or unoriginal mimicry, and instead focus on the games, developers, new features, etc. There are ways to combat extreme commercialism without turning a brown eye to the modern world; it's up to our generation right now to actively fix what's happening instead of trying to move backwards culturally. To paraphrase, there are more things in modern media than rampant commercialism and cinematic glossy turds, and LOOK FORWARD.
Duh didn't say he hates all triple-A games though, just the samey ones. As for me, there aren't really any triple-A releases that I'd be interested in, unless you count games like Total Wars and Company of Heroes 2.

...yeah it's not like the games I mentioned are PC exclusives

Gashed my pinky finger on a piece of broken wine bottle today. When I picked it up, it broke the label and glass shards fell everywhere.
My dumb ass tried to catch a falling piece.

I went to bed and didn't have a chance to reply to this in person.
So just to be clear, here's why I'm likely not going to buy into the next generation of console games:
It has a high startup cost compared to my PC. I have to pay in $300+ to even start, and every game after that costs around $40 (already assuming I do not buy into them on release, which would be $60). For most people this isn't too much of a problem because they have a library of console games chock full of the samey titles I mentioned and thus the startup cost of buying the console is dwarfed. I am not one of those people, I have about 5 titles for the 360 and as many for the Wii. I've already got a PC, it's pretty decent, and I don't really need to worry about running out of storage space on my hard drive due to save files since I have a full TB free.
I play many of the more interesting titles on the PC, as they typically have PC ports anyway. As mentioned previously I'm not really interested in CoD or assassins creed or what have you, so even though a lot of those are console exclusive, I don't really care. Games I have an interest in, such as RF:A, RF:G, Alan Wake, Terarara, Bio:Inf, Bethesda games, (some) indies (I dislike the "8 bit is best" crowd as well), and a full library of older games to pick and choose from, are all available to me without touching a console.
I don't care about community features besides modding, and modding isn't a thing on consoles. I may be out of date but last I heard, modding on consoles was a no-no, and I love mods. Every Bethesda game I play, I play with tons of mods, and the same goes for pretty much every game I have that has modding capabilities. Console-heavy companies don't like mods because they want to sell DLC, which is paid 1st part mods. On PC they have to just accept it or ban them in MP where they have a legitimate reason to do so (though I think there are better options, such as separated modded/vanilla rankings, but whatever).
PC is an open platform by nature, consoles are a closed platform by nature. DRM has been getting worse on consoles, not better. I don't consider good titles on consoles to be attractive enough to buy a $300+ machine that intrinsically wants to stop me from doing things I like doing, such as requiring me to link games to an account or console when I just want to be able to take the disc (and maybe a memory card) to a friend's house. Storage space on consoles is also expensive, prohibitively so in my opinion: $70 for a new 360 20Gb HDD, $75 for a 500Gb PC drive. To gain 40Gb of storage on the PS3 at launch was a $100 difference. And it sounds like, at least with the One, the second hand games market is going to be shrinking drastically in the coming years, such that you can't buy a game except at market price, and only while stores stock them on shelves. I don't like that, and I don't think the exceptions to the trend are worth the investment or hassle.
Rarrar. I could probably find some more reasons but the above are the major ones I can think of off the top and midlayer of my head, and in my opinion the above are reason enough to sidestep this gen. I might be persuaded to get a PS4 sometime in the future, as mentioned I will give them a chance to legitimately turn around and get more friendly with homebrew people with indie titles and whatnot. We'll see. The touch bar is still dumb.

At least get the quote right, sheesh.
