The bold tile borders makes it a little hard on the eyes, but details aside, tile-based movement sounds like the ideal way to go. One issue I had with it though is that it seems a little too restrictive. I thought about having a grid overlaid on top of a regular map, and characters could have movement within a 6x6 foot/2x2 meter tile, to make things feel less restrained.

So multiple units can squeeze into one tile? That sounds rather nice. You're right about the tile-system being somewhat constraining, considering the fact that a single item would fit on a single tile along with a single character and bleeeeeh. It would indeed be painful to go strictly by tiles.

If you could make an example image showing how you would display such a map, that would be cool.

I've got an idea, for everybody that rolls for an RtD that I'm in, I'll roll for one of mine that you're in, or one of your choosing, deal?

Nighthawk: Something like this.

Image

Obviously it's just a google maps image with a grid thrown on it and some dots, but it serves is purpose.

Ahh, I see. You're right - compared to that, tiles are really restricting.

Maybe I'll make a tiles-within-tiles system or something. Because I have an obsession with tiles.

We should.

Keyword: should.

EDIT - Okay, I WOULD roll more, and I was really into my game when I started, but after many, many rounds of ad-libbing stuff, I lost track of what I wanted it to be and it became... less interesting to me.
When I start my next game, rest assured, I will WANT to roll, and thus will do so more often.

Confessions of a lazy-ass DM.

Soon.

Just kidding - I'll give you a straight answer.
Actually, no - I'll give you a long-winded explanation, and THEN a straight answer.

Uber-crazy combat system works in theory, and in light testing. Going to get a friend of mine to make a character sheet and play through a short little practice run so we can seriously test it.

From there, it's probably just going to be various changes (if any) large and small, and some things like,

- More creatures (Won't take too long - I can spit stuff out pretty reliably.)
- Creating materials for weaponry and deciding their stats (Also won't take too long, since some metals will be real. I'll have to do a bit of research, though.)
- MAPS (This is what will take longest. I have quite a few towns and cities in the world, and I would LIKE to map every one, but that's probably not gonna happen.)

Still need to decide exactly how I should implement maps and movement. I can make slight changes to movement rules without issue, but I need to make the decision of whether to go full-out strict tile based, use the system you suggested, Cave, or use a completely different system.

Short Answer - a month or so.
If I can decide quickly what kind of maps to use, and then get my arse moving on making them, or decide to make them on the fly, less than a month. If I'm indecisive and want to map everything, more than a month.

Part of me wishes someone ELSE would make a command decision for me, but that's being irresponsible. I need to make my own RtD.

Finished exam week, just in time to be gone on a week-long trip.

Hopefully when I get back things will get rolling again (no pun intended). I'll see you folks in eight days or so.
