Speaking of roleplay, just had a super deep and dark and serious session of DnD.
So our party is making this long trip, taking us like a month if we ride for most of the day every day. This one night I'm keeping watch and I see this guy being chased down by two others. I am a good character so my first instinct is to go see whats going on, but then I'm thinking about how just last night we were attacked in our sleep and one of our party members was severely crippled. The attacker was hurt but is still out there and I'm thinking that me leaving to guy investigate would be the dramatically perfect time for her to strike, so I stay at my post and make sure the others are able to recuperate. I figure he's just like a petty thief or something and they're bringing him to the sheriff.
The next morning we hit the road again and come across a terribly mutilated corpse who appears to have had his limbs torn in separate directions by horses. Of course, it's the guy from the previous night. The other guys are perturbed by the grisly scene but are not moved to any particular action. My character feels like he could have, should have done something and so in the next little town, wracked with guilt, he goes to investigate. We find one of the assailants hunting in the woods with an unaffiliated friend. After I just barely prevent my friend from shooting him we find out that the victim ♥♥♥♥ this guy's wife. We leave him drunkenly sobbing with remorse. I'm not quite satisfied with this reason but I no longer think he's some deranged murderer and I can sympathize with him wanting to seek revenge. I go to town to report only to find little law enforcement and much apathy for the occurrence. Considering the situation I don't really see it being my place to intervene, perhaps this is simply the way this are functions. However another party member has taken interest in the situation, being strongly lawful. There aren't many laws in this land to break but he feels that he should try to act according to the laws of his hometown. As I'm reporting the issue he goes to the man, breaks his jaw, and ties him onto his horse with the intention of bringing him to the law. A third party member (the only other good character in the party) feels that us essentially kidnapping this guy is wrong and I concur, while another member strongly feels it would be an unnecessary burden. We are travelling on a very time sensitive mission and this whole situation is a strain. Eventually we agree to take the man with us until we reach our destination, where we will dump him with the local authorities. Upon reaching the other town we try to just that, though it's made difficult by our lack of hard evidence. The tied up man breaks down and confesses and we are able to leave him, though he doesn't leave our minds. Upon reaching town, me and the other good character brood. My character on his guilt and being confronted with moral dilemmas and his character on being crippled/nearly killed and on all the violence and apathy we're seeing in the world.
Normally we just cut up goblins, make jokes, and try to figure out how the rules work but this was kind of heavy ♥♥♥♥. This is our first session after a pretty long hiatus and is only like our sixth session overall maybe. First I kind of laughed off the idea of playing pen and paper but then began to see it as a kind of board game version of Diablo, but now I'm seeing something else. I'm not really sure if I enjoyed this session (didn't help that we started extremely late after a long day of doing other stuff) but I think there's the potential for something kind of engagingly meaningful that you don't get from video games.

Re: The Lounge
I stopped playing SS13 back when it was closed source. Nice community back then, much more serious. They pretty much all got up and went when the game had it's source leaked.
Also they patched all the neat bugs. I miss being able to put fire in my backpack.

Re: The Lounge
It's my rule not to trust closed source things in general. You know, Copyleft and everything. Though I use a lot of closed source things that are still credible and needed for everything I do anyways.
I can imagine only using closed source software would be quite a hindrance.

Re: The Lounge
i actually play on a server thats separate from /tg/'s servers called sigurd, but the community there is just like 20 or so people from main /tg/ anyway theyre all cool people, all of them the server is actually based on bay code, which is neat. much better for rp, and the admins are amazing. much better than /tg/ imo
regarldess i now consider /tg/ my "new community" or w/e because it's the one that i visit most often and actually care about and feel relevant to rather than shitposting in off topic here every once in a while dont get me wrong like, you guys are cool, but drl is not a very engaging place.
