Ah, most of the time I've been working around or under 1000 because It keeps it near proper resolution and I don't have to zoom about so much, I usually like to see the whole piece and zooming out on huge resolutions ends up making brush strokes all steppy and ugh. I usually use brushes around the realm of sizes 5-6-7 and put flow & opacity pressure controlled. Although, it might be down to me having a technique of swooping down a line, and if it doesn't look right, undoing it then repeating. You also said you break up lines to make a whole, I have to say I find that hard with the tablet. That said, me using a tablet for months as opposed to being used to traditional for years probably means it's all down to me still not completely accustomed.

Know what you mean about the steppyness yeah (in PS I'm assuming). At 25, 50, 100, 200% etc it doesn't happen though, and from my experience neither on 66,7 or 33% when you're working at higher res. I usually have flow and size at pressure. Think that creates a softer pencil like brush. Especially size at pressure might be worth trying, without size and flow at pressure it seems closer to something like a pen (used that for the bits of shading). It can be tricky to match up ends when doing a line in multiple segments, and yeah when I do I usually have to redo it often. I think having size and flow at pressure helps with blending the ends too. Also can be helpful to zoom out a bit when doing large lines to reduce the stroke you have to make.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I have the size pressure controlled as well. I'll have to start trying out larger works then.

Here's a dump of my wallpapers I've worked on recently. I wouldn't mind some CnC if you guys want to give some. PS: They are kinda big.

Gradient does not compliment the shape. Try messing with scripts. I really wish I had some of my old flames.

Not sure if qualifies. But man, electronics are pretty fun when you've finally finished a design and begun producing it. UPDATES:

Bleh, gouache, first time using it. Horrible stuff, the colour you put down dries differently to a colour which is neither what it looked when wet or on the palette, god forbid you are trying to paint over another colour (brown+thin white overlay dries to... bright pink, GRAH). I need to try using proper paint like oil or acrylic. On another note I think my scanner's shot it, the scans are blurry and the motion of the scanning arm sounds slightly erratic like it keeps jamming.

Excellent study Adriaan, the values and colors are spot on. Is that from the Georgia conflict a few years ago? There are a few oddities I notice with the soldier as I flick between the ref and the study, the overall pose in yours looks a bit more like his back is arched and chest puffed out, his jacket also looks too narrow. The foreground is a bit blurry.
Nice longbowman Robolee. I don't have any experience with gouache but I know the Acylic does the same thing when it dries which is why I paint from darkest to lightest values, lighter values get noticably darker after they've dried.

The foreground is a bit blurry. Thanks! It's a pic from an IDF soldier somewhere in the Northern Gaza Strip actually (Georgian soldiers used US woodland and/or marpat afaik). Agreed with your comments, the pose is different, looks a bit more heroic in posture I guess (not what I intended). Should've probably paid more attention to the lower foreground, yeah. Was starting to get 'tired' of it, after I made sure to detail the focal points a bit.

MyPaint- rather simple but has good brush options and a minimalistic Gui that doesn't get in the way. PaintTool SAI- costs money to get the full version(pretty cheap) but a really nice overall program. GIMP- basic, but pretty much a poor man's photoshop. For actual "painting" I'd recommend MyPaint or SAI.
