Re: Art Dump
Bleh, gouache, first time using it. Horrible stuff, the colour you put down dries differently to a colour which is neither what it looked when wet or on the palette, god forbid you are trying to paint over another colour (brown+thin white overlay dries to... bright pink, GRAH). I need to try using proper paint like oil or acrylic. On another note I think my scanner's shot it, the scans are blurry and the motion of the scanning arm sounds slightly erratic like it keeps jamming.

Re: Art Dump
Excellent study Adriaan, the values and colors are spot on. Is that from the Georgia conflict a few years ago? There are a few oddities I notice with the soldier as I flick between the ref and the study, the overall pose in yours looks a bit more like his back is arched and chest puffed out, his jacket also looks too narrow. The foreground is a bit blurry.
Nice longbowman Robolee. I don't have any experience with gouache but I know the Acylic does the same thing when it dries which is why I paint from darkest to lightest values, lighter values get noticably darker after they've dried.

The foreground is a bit blurry. Thanks! It's a pic from an IDF soldier somewhere in the Northern Gaza Strip actually (Georgian soldiers used US woodland and/or marpat afaik). Agreed with your comments, the pose is different, looks a bit more heroic in posture I guess (not what I intended). Should've probably paid more attention to the lower foreground, yeah. Was starting to get 'tired' of it, after I made sure to detail the focal points a bit.

MyPaint- rather simple but has good brush options and a minimalistic Gui that doesn't get in the way. PaintTool SAI- costs money to get the full version(pretty cheap) but a really nice overall program. GIMP- basic, but pretty much a poor man's photoshop. For actual "painting" I'd recommend MyPaint or SAI.

Gave MyPaint and SAI a try. I like SAI, so I think I'll be sticking with it.

Re: Art Dump
Heh, madmax's art alone is worth checking this thread for (wink wink madmax), though with that said, it's always lovely to see what people cook up in here. c: Also, that pencil drawing is a rad thing, i love clean lines like those! Urch wrote: I made a mess Is it still art if it doesn't mean anything?YOU CALLIN THAT A MESS BOI I'LL SHOW YOU A RIGHT MESS that is a terrible and ugly mess and mostly the result of me facerolling the mouse all over the canvas Yours is not terrible or ugly like that, i fact i find it pleasantly trippy. and after a final skipped line i present to you something i made pretty quickly I'm PROBABLY not wholly done with it, but it got really late yesterday. If anything, i'd at least try to make it less blurry.
