Re: AFTERLIFE: CRUEL DAWN
So as weeks ground into months, the machinery of the game turned still before it even started to move.
I accept all the blame.
The time was out of joint, the travails of life too fierce, the AP exams nerve wracking, my significant other far too compelling.
But there's hope, and I have to cling to it. Summer brings time, and I have more or less abandoned the temptation of videogames; the roll will be finished.
You guys are wonderful. Thanks for sticking by me through all my efforts at RTD.

Re: AFTERLIFE: CRUEL DAWN
ROLL COMPLETE.
Gameplay information follows, with objective, actioning format and general guidelines.
Goals:
As either a descendant of the Human Hive or a Boltzmann Brain such as Foa, your primary goal early on will be to stake out territory, improve yourself, and manage your planetary biosphere as a form of war preparations. Now, why would you want to do those things, and how would one go about doing them?
1. Gaining greater control over your planet will uncover secrets that could give you the edge in a confrontation, along with expanding the amount of chemical energy you can feed upon. This will be a key early-game priority, and can be achieved by manufacturing smaller avatars as meatpuppets to explore and interact with your planet. Foa, as an orbital being, will be able to scavenge for and deploy probes from her wreckage.
2. Self-improvement! Every character starts off with four key components to their character sheet; a Neural Structure (determines how effectively your character processes information and in what way), an Expansion Apparatus (allows you to gain more mass, exploit more resources or expand in general), a Sensory Modality (how you perceive the world around you) and a Feeding Method (where you gain energy and resources). Each one of these four is a tool that can be actively employed in your actions; rooting more "trees" for Topionsis, scouring Gorl-Otho's memories for the history of the Human Hive, sweeping the poles for activity as Siseon Plus, or simply putting your lungs into methane-breathing overdrive as Haturak.
Every one of these will upgrade with prolonged use and become more highly evolved; players have full control over their own characters regardless of whether or not their Psychokinetic ability allows them to manipulate living things. So feel free to try and grow new organs, or tack on cool upgrades to the ones you start with! Keep in mind that all this will cost you energy.
3. Managing the living things of your planet is part of the "long game" of Afterlife: Cruel Dawn. As life grows in complexity, your planet will develop a greater connection to the Noösphere that fuels your Psychokinetic abilities, empowering you to do greater and greater things! In addition to this, your planet's life can be groomed for use as loyal slave species to fight competing players, or even as a food source!
Your final objective is to grow in power in order to kill off the competition and secure final control of the solar system for yourself. That's right. You are in the same solar system, and you will most likely be fighting.
Communication and Misc. Rules:
(Unless players form an alliance of some sort, they will be in a de facto war.)
Communication is, by default, a free action, and players can begin talking among themselves right now. Chatter between participants and RP is highly encouraged, as are backroom deals, strategic planning, and whatever else might seem like a good idea.
Metagaming, however, will meet with the full weight of me being incredibly ♥♥♥♥ pissed off. So please refrain from that.
A side note: other players are not the only individuals you will be dealing with. Notice the names given in each player's introduction? Those are living in-system entities which are mysteriously linked to each player. Talking with them will give more information about the background of Afterlife, valuable advice, secrets, and potentially even an ally!
(Romance subplot optional.)
Actioning and Rolling:
Actions will be submitted with this format: > Psychically warp the thing.
Per turn, each player will have three "action points". By spending all three on one action, the player will perform one action of enormous (planet/Hiver/Boltzmann/god-scale) importance which will be rolled on a d20. By spending points in a 2:1 ratio, the player will perform an action of very very high importance which will be rolled on a d10 along with a normal-sized action on a d6. If the player chooses, they can opt to have three normal (in Afterlife terms) actions which will work like actions for Destiny, Afterworld or Pioneers of Space.
3 points: massive d20 2:1: large d10, normal d6 1:1:1: normal d6
You can mess with a creature's organs and biology without genetic powers if it happens to fall in your Sphere of influence. For example, Siseon Plus can trigger the evolution of sensory organs and Omnatom can trigger mutagenic radiation.
Have fun, guys! I know it's been a long wait, but trust me, I worked hard to create and map this universe.
Now... BEGIN ACTIONS!

Re: AFTERLIFE: CRUEL DAWN
"GORL IS. "
"GORL MUST SEE, GORL MUST LEARN. GORL SHALL GROW SENSORY TENTACLES!" Grow new sensory appendages to look around and find out what has happened to this planet while I slumbered. I'm thinking tentacles with eyeballs on the end. Could be useful for getting a better sense of where Gorl is.
"GORL SHALL RIP AND REBUILD THE YOUNG ONES, MAKE THEM STRONG AND WISE LIKE FATHER GORL. FATHER GORL SHALL GIVE YOU SOCIETY." Enlighten them a new, expanded caste system. And by that, he means encourage that mutation of theirs into much larger scale. Which means hopefully, getting those Tardigrades a caste system similar to an anthill.
"GORL SHALL FEAST UPON THE RAIN. GORL HAS SLUMBERED FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS, GORL WILL REBUILD POWER." Harvest more materials to give myself a strong resource basis to work from. I hope to increase my own personal raw material inputs to give me more resources to play with.
"GREETINGS, UNKNOWN ONE. FATHER GORL SHALL LISTEN, IF YOU SPEAK."

Something is still alive. ... Or it could be dead. Both options are equally troubling. But if it is truly living, others may be as well. This could prove to be a risk. Or a boon. The lack of details at this point is... troubling, but expected.
Code:
S: Send a message to all planets in this system. S: /R: "Survivors?"
