The best way to learn a language is to dive right in in my opinion, with the API and a tutorial at your side. Reading a bunch of text without applying your knowledge will not grant you any skill.

Books teach you the principles and fundamentals, and instruct you to do stuff.

I usually dive right in, the problem with books is that they usually come at it from a completely different direction to the way I want to pick it up.

I find that a good combination of diving right in but using resources for guidance is a nice way of learning. That way you forge your own way of doing stuff instead of somewhat echoing someone else's.

I found the game I was thinking of. Called SLAI, or maybe Phantom Crash. It looks basically the same.

Pretty fun. I want to play it again.

Searched that game and indeed, it looks like you can have some real good fun with it.
Also, started playing LSD: Dream Emulator, and that should be considered an horror game.

BTW, I'll stick with the website that I'm using right now to know programming, then after I've completed everything I'll see what I can do to dive in it, because right now I shouldn't even be using that website, I should be studying instead, but whatever, if everything goes wrong in my life I build a church and tell people I was an atheist and became Christian or some other ♥♥♥♥.
But anyway, are you guys sure those exercises aren't good or something? I think I'm learning some pretty good (even tho it's simple) stuff.

I'm also learning German. Holy ♥♥♥♥ compound verbs.

Have you seen Heat (1995)? Cool movie, one of my favourites (and goto movie recommendation). Also Blood Diamond; probably my two favourite movies, those.

Diving into a pool of Mexicans didn't work.

What kind of stuff do you like?

I recently saw Robot and Frank (2012) and it was pretty good. Humorous but a little soul-searchy human existence question-y at the same time. It's about an retired old man with Alzheimer's who gets a robot helper from his son. Set in an eerily plausible future where libraries no longer contain books (since you can just download them) but still exist so young hip people can get the "library experience".

On that note Monsters (2010) remains one of my favourites. Monsters is like a really zen District 9. District 9 is quite good too if you haven't seen it.

My favourite movies (you've probably seen them all already):
Groundhog Day
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Back to the Future
The Breakfast Club

How do not deserve one? Remember when I said all those controversial things?

Anyone who says anything controversial should be murdered in public.
