(Pixel) Graphics editing programs
I've used Windows XP for a while and learned to love MSPaint. It's really been the best choice with pixel art for me for a really long time. [rant] [/rant] EDIT: Never mind. I can't do this. I need MSPaint. Regardless, thread on pixel graphics programs.

graphicsgalegraphicsgalegraphicsgalegraphicsgalegraphicsgalegraphicsgaleOnly pixel program i'll ever need, superior to Paint in just about every way, short of making pretty circles with the circle tool (which is a highly situational tool to begin with). I can't possibly recommend that program hard enough. c:

Re: (Pixel) Graphics editing programs
Managed to let myself replace windows 7's paint in system32 with the vista version. I am very, VERY relieved.
Shook, don't take this moment away from me D:
That looks like something I'm really after though, but I'll check it out later. Thanks anyway.

You guys and your new-fangled paintotrons, MS Paint XP all the way. Everything else is just to confusing and complicated to be fun.

^
Vista paint is basically the same as XP paint, but with more-modern looking icons.

I can understand not liking Paint on Windows 7 (you know, if you're an elderly woman scared of totally cosmetic changes) but you'd have to be a complete troglodyte not to use Vista's paint over XP's
They are literally identical apart from Vista having more Undos Who on earth would object to more Undos

More undos means more crutches for terrible artists If you are good at art, you have nothing to fear from the lack of undos If you like more undos, you must have something to hide

Just leave them all in. Down with the artistic process. And this pixel community showcases programs many users use on their website http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/links.asp?id=2245Always good to have an open mind about which pixeling program is best for you

Re: (Pixel) Graphics editing programs
So I tried out GraphicsGale, seems OK.
I can't seem to find out whether I can change the mouse button functions though. I'd rather have the color pick as middle mouse button and right mouse button as secondary color.
Making single pixels is a hassle too, as it locks it as a line. Is there any way to change this?
Is there another forum regarding these questions?

If anything, it's probably the line tool giving you problems. But just to clear things up: Is that the tool you're using? Because it should be, unless you're genuinely looking for the line tool, which is right next to it. Otherwise, i don't know of a GraphicsGale forum or a way to change the mouse buttons, though i've pretty much gotten used to the RMB-colour picker by now.

Re: (Pixel) Graphics editing programs
Eh, didn't mention I prefer the line tool for pretty much everything.
Yeah.
It's pretty stupid if I can't somehow remove the easy-not-holding line thing.
I've gotten used to the way you can right-click while "holding" a line to quick-undo it, so it's nice that they implemented it in GraphicsGale. However, it picks a new color every time you use right-click. I consider this a flaw.
I think it'd be very optimal for the middle-mouse to have a use. I'm used to having two colors for both mouse buttons available for use, as in paint.
There must be a quick key to switch primary color to secondary. There is, right? It would be really useless if there wasn't.

Re: (Pixel) Graphics editing programs
Frankly i don't know, your modus operandi is vastly different from mine. I've never truly needed a button for colour switching, nor have i used the line tool enough that this quirk is of any issue to me. I only use the line tool when i explicitly need long, straight lines, otherwise it's mostly pencil and the occasional rectangle.
HOWEVER, further inspection reveals to me a thing under File/Preferences that says "Keys". I believe you can set a hotkey for swapping colours there. There also seems to be a "Pick Colour" function, which, although probably not bindable to a mouse button (don't know how), can be bound to a key. Also worth noting is the "pick second colour" thing. What i don't see, unfortunately, is a way to make the line tool behave as you desire (i know that holding it down does remove the snapping, but it still ain't easy to make singular pixels).

Re: (Pixel) Graphics editing programs
It's a shame that you can't change the mouse keys... Anyways, I guess I'll have to be able to get used to changing colors with a key or having a palette nearby. Thanks anyway!
