> Whipping out your Luminous Bow and pulling back the string to summon an arrow, you dash towards the source of the sound. While you do, you see a red dot of light appear in the sky far ahead, flying away from you. After a second, it expands and then flies backward and explodes.

Another scream sounds, and a dark shape falls out of the sky from the center of the fiery explosion.

The arrow in your Luminous Bow creates enough light to see a few feet around you of cobblestone road and small dome-shaped structures, but nothing more than that.

> You hurl fireballs in the direction of the shelves while strafing to the right. The shelves catch fire and start burning, lighting up the area.

Near the back of the room, you can see the white-armored figure darting around in and out of shadows, while in a newly lit area far to the right of the crater, a spiky white ball uncurls and stands up into the shape of an Aucupe.

Conditions :
- Moderate Bruising (-3 Physical actions)
- Whirlwind Armor (+2 Physical Actions)

> Steady for a second. I think I can take him out.

You charge up Firebrand, creating a small bubble of light around you and the dragon, and the dragon takes a second to stabilize itself.

With Heaven's Blessing, Echo Helm scans a large area around you and picks up the massive bat-winged creature steadily zooming towards you from above.

Swinging Firebrand in a quick horizantal slash, a large fireball flares to life and flies out, crashing into your target. The creature is enveloped in a blanket of fire and screams once before plummeting out of the sky and crashing into an empty street below.

As the Black Dragon continues towards the city's center at a low altitude, you hear more distant screams ahead in the dark.

> You ignore the pain and stand up and step away from the shelve near you that just caught on fire. Looking at John, you see him hurling fireballs at all of the various wooden furniture in the room, creating a blaze.

> "Should I risk a bit of light?"

A bit to the north-east, closer to the center of the city, you spot a tiny ball of orange light zooming across the sky towards the city's center. After a second, it expands and flies backward and explodes, and another scream reaches your ears.

Koa: "I'll make some."

A small ball of white light pops into life beside you, with Koa holding it above her only hand.

Koa: "I'm guessing Gustaf encountered something that the other corrupted don't like. We'd best use this to our advantage to cover as much ground as we can while they're cowering."

Now that you can finally see, you take a quick look around. It doesn't look too different from the village where you woke up, only that the buildings are denser and more numerous. The light reaches partially through several round windows, and you can see shadows shifting around.

You move close enough to the structure to feel its smooth, stone surface with your hand, but you still can't see it in the pitch black of night.

Feiar: "This should be the city wall. Should we try to get out? There's a gate - that way."

Feiar leans to the left, indicating the direction of the gate.

> You prep Whirlwind for a swing, but before you can attack a white beam of light comes crashing through the furniture and strikes you in the shoulder with its point. The force of the blow knocks you off balance and throws you in a spin, causing you to clatter onto the ground.

Luckily, your grip on Whirlwind automatically tightened, preventing the weapon from being lost. The beam of light, which appears to be a lance of hard-light, lays on the ground not too far and slowly fades away.

Whirlwind: I've only so much energy left.

Aucupe launches a fireball at the unseen armored figure and the room is momentarily lit with the glow of a fiery explosion.

Aucupe: "Missed."

Conditions :
- Moderate Bruising (-3 Physical actions)
- Whirlwind Armor (+2 Physical Actions)

> The Black Dragon continues towards the city center, and reaches the region of massive towers. Your ears ache as screams sound from seemingly every where, too strong for Echo Helm to translate into imagery.

However, it suddenly turns quite bright, and around you see looming towers and massive bat-like creatures with fierce talons. Several of them spiral out of control and start to fall, and then the light vanishes.

> A white beam of light strikes John and knocks him to the ground while Aucupe throws a fireball towards the back of the room. An explosion is heard and the room is momentarily lit up with an orangey glow.

Aucupe: "Missed."

Anyways, you don't have time to draw up a rune, so you pull out a Fire Drop Tag, charge it with magic, and try to spin in a circle to surround yourself with fire. It doesn't work however, and you drop the burning tag in pain and back up as it flares up into a powerful fireball that sits on the ground.

Conditions :
- Cut Left Foot (-2 Left Foot actions)
- Bruising (-2 Physical actions)

> Both you and Koa break into a run, moving quickly north-east towards the city's center.

"I didn't think there was anything that the corrupted feared."
Koa: "If you believe all corrupted to be mindless killing machines you will not live long."

The buildings become denser and change from residential domes to five to ten-story towers. A chorus of more screams sound in the distance, and the two of you halt.

Koa slowly backs up to an empty wall and you follow her while shadows start creeping into the range of her light.

Koa: "BACK OFF!"

The orb of light turns into a miniature white sun, turning your entire surroundings pure white without depth. It doesn't hurt your eyes, but when the light returns to normal a split second later, you can see the dark shapes writhing on the ground or running into buildings and each other, growling and hissing in pain. Several creatures, however, seem completely unaffected, and poke at their brethren in a curious manner or simply look in Koa's direction.

Koa: "... That probably attracted a lot of attention."

> Walking along the wall with your hand against the stone, it takes a minute for you to feel a giant hinge. past it is a smooth, cool "door," which happens to be open enough for you to pass through.

Feiar: "But where do we go? We're in a forest and it's dark."
