There's still only going to be one roll per character, there will just be modifiers only applying depending on what action the player takes, which is what I've already been doing. This is simply more laid-out, so it is less confusing to the player what's going on, and keeps things more consistent.

Wait, so essentially, your one roll applies to every single action that occurs on that turn?

So, if your action is "Attack the enemy with my sword" and you roll a 1, you not only fail to hit, but any attacks that the enemy makes against you cannot be dodged because you've already failed?

I may or may not be working on a RTD about the crew of a warship during the Colony-Rebellions involving Luna, Mars and Earth.

In case I am working on such a RTD, would anyone be interested?

I may or may not have image maps from the top down perspective prepared, and may or may not have already nailed down most plot concepts.

I would be interested, actually. If you throw me a character sheet skeleton, I could probably whip up a character bio.

I'm up for another RTD. Most of the ones that I'm in have been abandoned.

Pretty much. Unless if your Speed stat is high enough to overcome your roll of 1.

More questions:
How do you decide how far characters can move in a single turn?
Does "Speed" increase at all, and is it the only stat that raises your ability to dodge?
If Speed also determines how far you move in a single turn, does it even make sense for it to increase? After all, people tend to get more agile/skilled but overall movement speed tends to remain the same unless your body itself changes, getting lighter or stronger.

These are all questions that I've pondered myself while coming up with a stats system.

+ Speed: Combat drugs. Ultralight power armour.
+/- Speed: Temporal shenanigans (bullet time, etc.). Magic (Haste/Slow, etc.).
- Speed: Simple Heavy Armour. Leg injuries. Rough/unstable terrain.

Lots of ways to justify speed increases or decreases, really. Depends on the scenario/setting/system.

Nice to see some interest for a potential RtD.

I may or may not start it, depending on how I feel.

Don't forget about Afterworld, it's a shame to see it die.

Currently (in this system and all other RtDs) it's based mostly on speed rolls. The exact distance is based on rolls times an arbitrary distance. Which needs fixing :P

Yup, speed increases. While it is the only STAT that increases your ability to "dodge," you can either work with Strength or Will to power through attacks or use abilities to either aid in dodging or tanking.

Both technique and physical improvements would increase local movement as well as movement over a distance. An Olympic sprinter has a certain running technique AND is fit, both contributing to distance coverage. A martial artists practices techniques that maximizes the efficiency and speed of strikes and blocks, and is also fit, again both lending a hand in improving movement. The Speed stat is a (grossly) simplified representation of both techniques and physical abilities that attribute to general movement, and complicating it would require the same complications to Strength (again, both technique and physical strength influence how hard you can hit someone), Arcane (do you just think really fast or do you just have good memory?), and Will (iron will or extreme pain tolerance?).

tl;dr Speed improves movement distance as well as local movement speed.

IMO, I say stick with one, but if you want another, resurrect NeN - you're (mostly) guaranteed to have players then, whereas a new game might not catch on.
