I'm talking about the law. Police care more about songs being pirated and their artists losing a little bit of their gains, than with guns and ammo being bought and people getting killed. I just think there should be more strict laws to these kind of things, because I find it harder to buy a game on Steam than to buy a gun on the Internet (and no, I haven't bought one so I can't tell it for sure, but yeah, you got it).
Well now you're doing an unfair comparison. Buying 900 bullets is perfectly legal, if a bit uncomfortable. Police have more important things to do than chase every little "lead" they get, that might just be some guy who likes buying their 3 year supply of ammo in advance.
Pirating music on the other hand, is an actual crime.
And BELIEVE me. The police care much much more about someone dangerous than someone stealing a few songs. If a couple cops were busting a guy for downloading music, and on the radio came "All units, shooter at 412 ABC Street" then at most they'd handcuff the guy downloading the music and throw him in the back seat, then speed off like a bat out of hell to 412 ABC street, if they didn't just not bother with him anyway.
Also I'm not positive about everywhere in the US, but I can tell you for SURE, it is harder to buy a gun than it is a game, ESPECIALLY online. Hell, it's outright illegal to sell guns online in some places.

Major wrote:
If the government stopped the sale of guns and destroyed any they found, how exactly do you think people are going to get more?
It would take a massive operation to get guns into a country that banned them outright. They'd be waaaay to expensive for 99.9999999999% of people.
Not to mention the penalties for smuggling guns are extremely harsh, life in prison is not fun and it'd be hard to find people willing to make the runs.
Ignoring the fact that America would never ever do that for so many reasons, less so than you think.
There are already all sorts of illegal black market operations, and all the guns wouldn't just vanish overnight. And smuggling ♥♥♥♥ is less difficult than you think, otherwise it wouldn't be such a huge deal.

Major wrote:
Why? Guns are more lethal by far. Try killing 22 people with a club, you'd be to tired to move afterwards.
You miss the point completely.
I could murder 12 people with a dinner fork, what then? Ban forks?
A weapon is only as dangerous as the person using it.

The reason smuggling guns now isn't particularly hard, is beacause there are guns everywhere in the US, the illegal ones just blend in and cops aren't allowed to chek them out.
If cops could just sieze all guns at will, guns would be pretty hard to come by to people that commit these school shootings, and it is not in a gang's interest to kill crowds of people at will
What are America's reasons for not banning guns? I can't for the life of me think of one, except mabe laziness.

1. People LIKE guns.
2. People like being able to do what they want, even if they don't actually want to do it.
3. Some people actually need to hunt animals just to put food on the table, and literally live off their guns. Not many admittedly, but still.
4. A lot of people directly make their living off of guns, whether companies that MAKE guns, companies that make gun parts, companies that make bullets, companies that run places where you can shoot guns, etc.
5. The military uses guns.
6. The police uses guns.
7. Private security companies use guns.
8. Everyone/where that uses guns lawfully, legally, and for good reason gets screwed over.
9. Everyone who DOES NOT get to use guns but want to gets royally pissed at whoever CAN use guns.

10. They are afraid Britain will come to reclaim the colonies.

Not like it'll happen. We're too busy ♥♥♥♥ with Europe right now.

But on the topic of gun control, it's very, very easy to have a gun smuggled into a country. In fact, if I wanted to, I could order an assault rifle right now, to the UK, in less than a hundred mouse clicks and have it arrive in parts over this year.

Best reason for gun use, hands down.

Chances are if he's trying to get his hands on an assault rifle, he'll be in deep ♥♥♥♥ whether or not he's caught obtaining the weapon.

Anyways,

The actual root problem that nobody is addressing is we have somewhat shitty mental health care. We usually just throw pills at people and insist that'll fix the problem without trying to find and fix the root cause.

and, yes, outright banning guns would cut down some of the issues, but not completely. And it's like punishing the entire kindergarten glass because one kid decided to spill glue down another kid's pants. Ban glue, solve the problem? Assuming the kid doesn't bring in his own glue against the rules, sure. Is it fair to the other kids? I wouldn't say so.

Also, blah blah constitution, we need guns in case our government goes nuts or whatever. They're there for a reason. Does a civilian population have an equal fighting chance compared to a well-financed, organized military? I would say no, but the mess that a war would cause is probably a good deterrent for the government to do anything drastic.

Indeed, that's true.

But that's outside the scope of what I was saying. I meant, that it is far too easy to have a weapon make it past border control. Vastly increasing border security would solve that problem, but that's a bit of a slippery slope.

1. With riots and anger and violence from the guns they all have.
2. See above.
3. If you eliminate ALL guns, then why are these people special? Why do they still get guns? What stops everyone else from just getting a hunting license and carrying around guns?
4. I don't see who else is gonna buy them.
5. You said ALL guns.
6. Thick clothing.
7. More than one person.
8. Security companies. Sometimes, you Need to defend something or keep it safe. And a taser carries neither the mental nor physical deterring power of a gun.
9. See 1.

Anyway, guns aren't the problem here. I'm not saying we should have assault weapons and ♥♥♥♥, because we shouldn't, I'm saying that take away ALL guns and you're going to be a facing a shitstorm so much worse than TEN elementary school shootings would.
Not to mention the logistics of such a thing. ♥♥♥♥ man, hide the gun under your mattress, and BAM problem solved. The government does not have the manpower to fully search the entirety of the USA for firearms.

The whole assault weapons ban thing is rather silly. I don't know if you've noticed, but pretty much all the shootings have been with handguns. Check out this graph.
I would wager that a good chunk (>80%) of the "other guns" category is non-automatic shotguns as well.

Any kind of automatic, AR, Sniper, LMG, SMG or a gun with a magazine larger than 5 rounds should be a jailable offense.

That is what I'm saying.

1. I don't see these magical riots in normal countries like the UK, NZ and Aus.
2.^^
3. Bolt. Action. Rifle. You carry around a bolt action rifle for a day.
4. The worlds military mabe?
5. The military is quite obviously an exception. One should trust ones government.
6. Err, besides insulated body armour, no.
7. More than one cop.
8. They look like guns, and hurt like hell.
9. The rest of the normal first world can deal with it, what makes the US special?

Guns are a problem, they are for killing and NOTHING else, a normal person shouldn't be killing people.
You're saying people care more about their right to own a gun than the lives of their children?
If a gun is hidden under a mattress it isn't killing someone.

Automatic handguns should also be banned. There is no reason a normal person should have a weapon capable of killing twelve people before reloading.
