 Re: The Lounge
I live in a country where people can't get guns and nobody has ever tried to shoot me or anyone I know so the whole American gun control issue is still one that sort of baffles me entirely, to be honest Especially assault weapons, or anything that isn't a tiny handgun

 Re: The Lounge
The actual root problem that nobody is addressing is we have somewhat shitty mental health care. We usually just throw pills at people and insist that'll fix the problem without trying to find and fix the root cause.

 Re: The Lounge
Well thankfully Obama's 23 Executive Gun Control Actions addresses (or will address) a lot of the issues that even pro-gun people have It makes me happy to see that he hasn't come up with a completely pants-on-head retarded solution

I believe getting proper mental health care in the US is also a)prohibitively expense and b)looked at as shameful or something. I don't really live in the US so I can't say On the topic of gun control, I am really enjoy marksmanship as a hobby but I do think gun control in the US it could use some work. I think a legal limit on magazine sizes should be instated in the US and more importantly, guns should be more regulated, I don't mean making certain guns illegal, rather I mean a stricter procedure towards getting those guns, to prevent the nutters from getting them.

I think we should just kill all Americans and absorb the land into the glory of Canada.

 Re: The Lounge
Normal people do not need guns capable of massacring 22 people in a school. Any kind of automatic, AR, Sniper, LMG, SMG or a gun with a magazine larger than 5 rounds should be a jailable offense. It'd stop all of this bull♥♥♥♥ from happening.
Also, coming from SA, America has it easy. So suck it up.

 Re: The Lounge
Better gun laws would surely be helpful in stopping some senseless massacres. However, it doesn't change the fact that there would still be people around who want to commit such massacres. They will find other ways to kill people, either using less powerful weapons, fires, explosives, etc. While it's possible they might not kill as many people, it wouldn't stop this sort of thing from happening entirely. Just gotta say, ANY gun that you have 22 bullets for falls into this category. Hell, a 9 round handgun, with a couple extra magazines? Right there, easily can do it. Also yes, large capacity and anything above semi-automatic should be extremely controlled if not illegal, but the problem is that that only stops people from acquiring them in LEGAL methods. Won't stop any gang violence or the like, but it'd cut down on the few and far between "TRAGIC SHOOTINGS" and such. Also what Duh said. Sane and stable people don't go around causing massacres.

 Re: The Lounge
Damn, it would be a No Man's Land Free For All Death-match here in Brazil if they legalized guns. And I remember I heard someone say something about that massacre in that theater. "The guy bought more than 900 ammo on the Internet, and the police didn't suspect. Maybe if he downloaded some pirated songs they would've got him before he done the crime." And I really agree with this person.

 Re: The Lounge
state laws (even in nominally anti-gun states) won't do ♥♥♥♥ unless there is a national standard
most guns used in violent crime in NYC don't get smuggled from overseas or magically appear in the hands of gangbangers; they're just purchased in texas and shifted overland

I'm sorry, but I feel this is stupid for both claims. I mean if I bought a rope, some duct tape, a knife, and maybe some bleach I guess? Well I could be using that to kidnap and murder someone, or I could be doing some heavy cleaning and a bit of work around the house. 900 bullets. Overkill, yes, but not something you can claim is suspicious based on that alone. I'd bet plenty of people who frequently go to target ranges to shoot guns at clay plates use that many. And if he'd pirated songs, then he'd get a cease and desist, probably nothing else unless he downloaded or spread a major number of songs. And even then, it'd take weeks or months to really get something in motion, and the police would probably just find a guy who was twitchy and distressed because he was being hounded by record companies, who owned a perfectly legal gun or two.

I'm talking about the law. Police care more about songs being pirated and their artists losing a little bit of their gains, than with guns and ammo being bought and people getting killed. I just think there should be more strict laws to these kind of things, because I find it harder to buy a game on Steam than to buy a gun on the Internet (and no, I haven't bought one so I can't tell it for sure, but yeah, you got it).

 Re: The Lounge
If the government stopped the sale of guns and destroyed any they found, how exactly do you think people are going to get more? It would take a massive operation to get guns into a country that banned them outright. They'd be waaaay to expensive for 99.9999999999% of people. Not to mention the penalties for smuggling guns are extremely harsh, life in prison is not fun and it'd be hard to find people willing to make the runs.

If guns get banned, you'll have to ban knifes, swords, clubs, etc.

 Re: The Lounge
Why? Guns are more lethal by far. Try killing 22 people with a club, you'd be to tired to move afterwards.
