Also in a completely unrelated event to my ISP being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I've been bedridden-ly sick since last night, fun ♥♥♥♥. I guess the universe really hates my RtDs. If I can hold in my vomit and keep my keyboard clean I will most def roll tomorrow after I punch my stomach into submission.

Merry Christmas, one and all! Seems like I was supposed to roll about 10 days ago, and I'm disappointed that circumstances have prevented that. I am rather tired, but fortunately feeling much better after beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of my stomach virus (which was serious enough to nearly ER me, so sorry about my broken promise to roll a few days ago when it was at its worst) and I'll be rolling once I wake up tomorrow and my mind is fresh and ready to go. No worries- you'll still be getting Christmas goodies and we'll be starting a new chapter in Ethersphere. Or possibly 6 new chapters, if you all split up and abuse the nonlinear nature of this RTD to its fullest. Hopefully we'll be able to warm up during this last week of 2012 and hit the new year running.

I could fit you in now, caek, if I expand the max players list to 8 :) Kebbit obviously wants to play, I'll also have to contact unwoundpath to see if he's still interested. You guys may not show up immediately-immediately but you'll still get all the same Christmas stuffs listed in this post.

Game Events
...
Within the next half of an hour, the group has cleaned shop and packed up all of their acquired loot into the Proteus. "We all ready to go? Good. Time to git to a place where we can cash in all of these shinies," Jackson says as he lowers the entrance ramp and prepares to board. Just as the ramp hits the ground and he prepares to step forward, he stops and the entire group focuses on a distant sound, reflexively taking out their weapons in case of danger. "Are those... bells?" Jet says in a confused tone. Everyone scans the sky that the sound seems to be emanating from, trying to discern the source while shielding their eyes from the bluish glare of the bright star, Mendrigan. As the sound of the bells increases in volume, a shadowy shape begins rapidly plummeting from the sky and slams into the ground fifty feet away from the ship. "The hell?" With guns raised, the group fans out and slowly approaches the crate, engulfed in the cloud of dust raised by its impact. A gust of wind clears most of it away and reveals the shape to be a white metallic cube about a meter long per side. A huge red ribbon is wrapped around it with a bow tie on top. A faint "Ho-ho-ho!" is audible as a larger shape flies overhead and soars higher up into the sky.

"...what." "CHRISTMAS PRESENTS!" The crate is soon opened, and inside are gift boxes addressed to each individual group member- two for Jet. "Hey look, this one's for my birthday! Kind of late but okay." All the presents are identical: they contain small touchscreen computers, easily small enough to fit into a pocket or backpack compartment, as well as what appear to be gift cards. When everyone powers on the microcomputers, the welcome screen has their name and a small introductory message that reads, Welcome to the Universal Nexus Automated Digital Assistant, or UNADA. UNADA units are lightweight, extremely durable, and easily portable. They are ideal for anyone who has to keep track of and have access to large amounts of information, such as students, businessmen, scientists, and even mercenaries. Every UNADA unit has built-in ultrawide range wireless internet capabilities and can connect to the net from nearly any point within ISC space, given that there is no significant interference present (such as shielding, EM weaponry, natural magnetic fluxes from nearby stars, or being present in deep space) UNADAs are ideal for tracking and managing electronic finances and allow for hyper-fast communications by using the unique warpnet, guaranteeing that your friends and loved ones will receive any message you send within seconds, not months! The UNADA interface is highly intuitive and simplistic by default but is capable of almost infinite modification to suit the user's needs.

"So basically, these things'll track your credits, let you buy ♥♥♥♥, and let you get in touch with anyone who has one almost instantly. Mighty useful. Looks like these cards that came with the packaging are credit chits that you can scan to put credits into yer accounts." With that out of the way, Jet rips into his birthday present and finds that it contains a large Swedish fish. "Whoa, the hell is this? Looks really tasty and all, but is that all I get for my birthday?" Upon closer inspection, however, he sees that the wrapping reads, ISC EXPERIMENTAL NANO-REPAIR RATION (ENR). A smaller description explains, This combat ration contains disposable short-use medical nanomachines capable of repairing almost all organic damage sustained by a soldier in combat. They will hasten wound repairs, flesh regeneration, dispose of dead flesh, and destroy foreign objects such as bullet and grenade fragments. The ENR may not restore every single wound on a heavily injured combatant, but it will be highly effective and will put the user in a combat-capable state within minutes. "Oh," Jet decides, "Well, that's actually pretty awesome."

Two hours later, the Proteus is once again docked in Kyoshi City, and the group of etherweapon-wielding mercs is back in the large bar/TV room at the station. "Well, I'm fixing to get a drink and then I'll have to see about cashing in that loot before the day's up. Lucky we got those UNADAs, it'll make getting your cuts to ya a lot easier. Dunno what y'all were planning to do, but I've had enough adventure for a few days, I think- gonna probably rent out a room and rest up. Later." The room is significantly less crowded than when they disembarked from the Durandal early that morning, but there are still about a dozen other individuals in the room, now at around midday.

Just in case it's unclear what you can do next, you can still do literally anything: talk to someone in the bar, use the future's equivalent of Google to find out whatever you want on your UNADA, go try to steal a docked ship (that'd be stupid but y'know)- it's entirely up to you. If you want to follow the "plot," don't worry about it for now- you'll know when you can follow it as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

EDIT: Also, caekdaemon, unwoundpath, and TheKebbit are all now playing. Just realized I did not make that clear at all. You can choose to start in the bar or anywhere you like, really, as long as it's not being the president of the universe or something.

Awaken. Break out of my rusted storage locker and leave for Metal Waste Recycling.
Code:
we've been locked away too long.
fuel cells firing [///======]
                  [///////==]

so few of us...
but we can fix that

Assuming we can choose our starting location, I choose to begin on a dilapidated, rotting wreck of an industrial station called the Phlegethon, suspended somewhere in orbit above a gas giant, far from the light of civilization.

Walk into the bar and glance around nervously... My kind are not much liked... Go to the bar, ask the bartended if there is anything going on...

"I've heard some... rumors... of going ons around here... You hear of anything...?"

"You boys might want to get yourself some proper Armour, you must be seriously lucky to have survived as mercs so far without any."
>Go to my bunk and fap.
>Reload my Pile Bunker. Then take a look at my Cannon, see if I can figure out why it was jamming so much.

I'll start on a core trading world, preferably in the heart of human space.

Find a preowned space ship yard and price up a small tug or freighter.

And so it begins.
