Asklar, why would you use XP anymore? At all?

Re: Post Your Desktop II (humorous phrase here)
Because I had to format my computer and I didn't have any other OS available. Buying another one would only delay it, plus, this computer is almost useless, so it wouldn't be smart to spend more money on it.

Solution: Don't buy it. If you know what I mean.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But windows XP hasn't given me any problems, and I'm being much more careful on what I do.
So no, I don't think I need to upgrade.

Asklar, if your current operating system is working fine for you, then don't get a new one, plain and simple, unless you have excess amounts of money or NEED a new OS then I don't think you need a new one, I'm running vista perfectly fine.

Mackerel's Pros and Cons of Windows OS Series
98: XP: Pros: Everything is ♥♥♥♥ wonderful god DAMN YOU CAN EVEN CHANGE THE BOOTSCREEN LOGO AHHHHHHH FUUUUUUUCK Cons: Unable to keep up with DivX standards for video game capabilities 7: Pros: Developers are given a whole new guideline of program accomplishments. Cons: Twin relations to Vista, only more successful. 8: Pros: Tablet and Microsoft phones expanding market. Cons: Why the ♥♥♥♥ would you want this as a desktop. Basically a computer that isn't backwards compatible with previous programs. God awful color scheme. Built walls for customization instead of breaking them down. all OS wars are nothing but frivolous I'M BETTER THAN YOU arguments.

Also XP is literally a decade old, no longer supported by Microsoft, and full of security bugs and driver/software incompatibility.

Windows 7 is the OS that software designers aim for, so in terms of compatibility with modern software it's a wise decision. If you want something faster or have lower specs, I'd actually advise going for a Linux distro.

Windows 8 has everything to gain and only very minor incompatibilities, almost all of which can be fixed easily.

It's also a good deal cheaper if you're upgrading from an older Windows, and damn near impossible to get if you're not.

Re: Post Your Desktop II (humorous phrase here)
If I was going to do that sort of thing provided I hadn't already I would get 7, mostly due to it's age, stability and my familiarization with it.

Re: Post Your Desktop II (humorous phrase here)
If I installed windows 7 regardless the source I'm not sure if it would work in this computer, since Dell doesn't have the drivers for this computer for Windows 7, only for Vista and XP.
And you know, I was not going to install Vista.
