The worst places on the internet are MMO game community forums, followed by general gaming forums.
This one doesn't count because it's for one specific and not massively popular game.

It appears, that the idiots, the ♥♥♥holes, and the immature follow whatever is popular, once something gets popular the average intelligence of the community drops sharply.

I don't think it's anything to do with popular things often being liked by people with low intelligence, it's just that people who don't know when to stop talking are obviously going to post more.
And the more people you have, the more of those people you have.

Any sufficiently large group of people is a bunch of ♥♥♥holes, introducing video games into the mix just gives them something conveniently polarising to be awful about.

I still prefer my theory that everybody except the people I actually like are complete idiots. =p

A.1: Pledging money now gets me a mid-tier ship and life time insurance on it, that might sound a little bit unfair, but space sims tend to be a lot more about strategy and piloting skills rather what gear you're using. Insurance will be offered for sale using in game money as well, so its not exclusive, and it's just a convenience that I won't have to pay for it.

B.1: I disagree, and regardless they're stretch goals, they're just meant to be added bonuses for over the top funding.

B.2: As I said in A.1, a lot of the gameplay is skill based, for example in X3 (another space sim), I can confidently take on a light battle ship with the starting ship. Other than that, the ships we get are basically just a hull and basic weapons, and when the ship gets destroyed anything I've upgraded is lost. Unless you were talking about the skins and modding manual, because you know, skins are OP as ♥♥♥♥.

B.3: If you're talking about you not liking space sims, then that's cool, but if you are talking about its implementation, then I can say with quite a bit of confidence that you're wrong. If you read about what they're planing to do (You probably haven't, but that's understandable, I sat down and read through all of the available design documents and notes) it's actually pretty smart with the PvP, multi-instancing and the like. While I won't spend hours writing up what they've already explained, I will mention that practically all of them have A: worked together in the past, and B: Created incredibly similar games (and are in fact the creators of the genre) meaning that if ANYbody were to do it right, it would be these guys. The only thing I would have been worried about is their transition into a relatively new game engine and working around it, but if I said the tech demos were not only demonstrating against that, but were also less than awesome, I'd be lying.

Essentially I love what they're doing, I have full faith in them, and I am pumped with enough hype to last me until the 2 year release. I've dreamed about a game like this for as long as a remember, and I could not be happier about the devs, or the way they've gone about funding it.
