That would make sense if I had to regularly replace my earbuds but I don't, almost all of the pairs I have owned have lasted me several years.
The ones I am using now have half of the wires exposed from wear and still function fine. They cost me £3.00.

No, you just choose a particular brand that has decent quality, and likely you take care of the ♥♥♥♥ you own. I've been buying earbuds @ about $1.50, though I've seen as low as $0.89 with sales. Those earbuds typically last me 6-12 months before something about them craps out, but you get what you pay for. The reason I've been doing that is because I can buy 3-4 different styles to find out what's comfortable, and what's got a good sound quality for the price.

Here's the specs i've gotten that I remember.

20hz-44.1khz, and 60db. I can't remember the impedance. Most of what people consider 'good' headphones go up to 85db, but I see no point to that, because anything higher can damage your ears. as for some things online saying you only really need 20hz-20khz, are retarded. 20khz is the high end of what we can hear with clarity, however if you add a lowpass/highcut filter to audio to remove everything above 20khz, there is a very dramatic difference. Most computers and music is typically recorded in 44100 hz (44.1khz), but i've personally recorded 88200 just because I can.
