Re: The Lounge
I always prefer earbuds for walking around campus with my MP3 player because they are light and less conspicuous and I'd look silly walking around wearing a headset, plus it is more comfortable to have one ear of earbuds in than to move one ear of a headset away from your ear if you are listening to someone. They are also something I can easily fit in my pocket. I prefer a headset when using a computer or using any device for a more extended period of time because they are more comfortable and also offer noise-cancelling technology.

Re: The Lounge
I wish I could fall asleep and wake up in 15 years. Or enter in a stasis field for 15 years.
Or something like that :C
How are things going to be in 15 years from now on?

If I want portable audio system thingamajickas, I'd get Koss Porta Pros. I don't really need portable audio system thingamajickas at the moment, though. I've generally found earbuds to really hurt my ears.

Re: The Lounge
I love how some of you say that ear-buds are evil, painful, and have no practical use, and then metal chao gave a list of practical uses for earbuds.
also you have to remember there's 3 different kinds of ear-buds that I've seen:
*The shitty rubber inner-ear-form-fitting ones. they have the floppy rubber bits. They always pop out of my ears, but if you can tolerate these, and get them to stay in, let me know how their life-span is.
*The standard hard-plastic earbuds. popularized by the iPod, and the design works. Uncomfortable for long periods of time. depending on brand these may have really ♥♥♥♥ audio, or really high quality audio. Of the high-quality, some have very good bass-response, others will have good bass response until you try playing dubstep through them, and then they won't have any sound under 300 Hz afterwords. In my experience JVC's do last longer than sony and apple, AND are cheaper.
*Around-ear earbuds. These are no less comfortable to wear than glasses. they don't wedge into your ear hard, and they are generally louder to compensate. excellent for running but have lower quality sound than the above 2. I used to like these except I wear glasses and they have a habit of getting stuck TO my glasses and pulling them off my face.
Actual headphones are only for when you're in a situation where you will be sitting down. the exception to this rule is if you have those weird headphone sets that are detached from eachother and do the clip-around-ear thing like the above around-ear earbuds, at which point they're good for if you're 'on the go'. Sadly they're uncomfortable as all ♥♥♥♥. (they have been the worst headphones i've ever owned)
In short, preference between in-ear earbuds, and on-ear/around ear headphones, is just that. Personal preference. Personally I have this really bad-ass pair of around-ear 5.1 stereo surround headphones, But I don't like wearing them unless I'm just wanting to sit back and really immerse myself in what i'm listening to. IE the short spans of time I become an audiophile.
and lastly, If you're buying headphones based purely on name recognition, or how they look, then you are a tool, and I hope you are stranded barefoot in a desert of lego-bricks.

From what I've experienced, earbuds tend to not fit my ear and that's why they hurt. I've tried 5 or 6 pairs, and one of them fit well. Too bad they had horrible sound quality.

As far as I'm aware members can't change their own names on this board? But I may have hinted in an admin's presence that maybe it'd be a good idea

Here's why most earbuds are crap, and why I hate things like skullcandy. One company makes the parts, another company makes designs, and then the companies who's names you buy get parts from the previous two, and slap them together. If you're going to buy any kind of sound system, make sure that at least the parts come from a company well known for quality parts, and check all the nifty specifications.
