Don't you hate it when the enemy brain lands right next to a clone with a heavy weapon that was left over from the last combat in the area?

Would be a limit on how many you could place. Two or three.

And yeah, free airspace upwards would be a neccessity.

What if they were deployable objects? I'm not sure that makes sense but it would be cool to fight/drag one all the way over to the enemy's base so that you can bomb the crap out of it.

I don't think bombs get enough love.

That's because CC isn't as tactically set up as it could be. Eh.

I love this idea anyway.

Off topic: but did you guys notice that the AI uses dropship bombs in skirmish defense now? they might in other game modes as well but it sure surprised the hell out of me.

On topic: the reasons for removing the restriction were because of how... over-restricting it was.
Sadly, the alt-fix the AA drones didn't quite work as planned, and the player can still coat the map in units as well.

It seems the skirmish ai is pretty clever now. It uses Base.rte/Activities/LandingZoneMap.lua to bomb and pick landing zones and stuff (haven't looked through it at all so I don't know exactly what it does), unfortunately the metagame ai hasn't done the same (I think). Hopefully that'll change.

That said, looking through the metafight.lua, it seems weird that the ai always picks the same spot. There's definitely stuff set up to make it carefully choose a landing zone, which should change depending on how many troops are in the area and other factors.

Lol. I just made a thread EXACTLY like this not so long ago. For 1.0 of course.

I liked the limited drop area personally but like it was said before maybe it could work better with dropship docks and stuff, because right now my favorite tactic at the start of a fight is to drop 2-3 ammo crates with a guy in each of them directly ontop of the enemy brain as it touchs down, you've already got a good 50% chance of crushing it for an instant win and once guys get out its pretty much over at that point. It feels pretty cheap and there's not much you can do to stop it since you can drop the guys directly on the enemy the second the fight starts.

Maybe instead of having a limited area around your brain you can drop in only, instead have a dead-zone around your enemies brain? So like, you can drop anywhere, except the width of the old dropzone near the enemy brain? Alternatively, have the old drop zone around your brain, but slowly widen it until it encompasses the entire map over like the first five minutes or whatever of an attack. Both viable 'anti rush' tactics.

So I completely broke the game and went around all the in-place systems to make it not super easy, it's kinda boring now, So obviously this should be severely nerfed for everyone else.

BombZero every time I see you post you're yelling at people for pointing out major flaws in the game. Madmuffin is not saying it an inflammatory or overly negative way; to improve the game it's vital that the devs can hear constructive criticism. Whiteknighting all the time isn't winning you points with anyone, in fact all you're really doing is hurting the game by discouraging people from speaking up.

Yeah man these are valid complaints and are all accounted for.
We're not done with CC's metagame gameplay yet, still tweaking.

yeah, sorry but it just slightly annoys me with any game when people do that. the whole "I used an exploit in a sandbox so it should be nerfed to the opposite extreme"
Also most of my time is spent just lurking, rarely do I actually find a situation in which I need or desire to comment on something, but I read a good percent of the post's made in either game discussion or off topic throughout the day.

For the most part I'm rather quiet here as there are a number of abrasive personalities on the forums which disincline me from posting, and might have contributed to me acting less then.... personable? here, I'll keep an eye on that in the future.

What do you mean by 'went around all the in-place systems?' Nothing stops you from ordering anything anywhere so there were no in place systems to prevent this to my knowledge. Do you mean loading guys in ammo boxes to be breaking the game? Spamming them to crush your opponent? Nothing prevents you from doing either. I know its encouraged to play in a fair, sportsman-like manner but there will always be people who will play cheaply and make it not fun for others, and I don't think its good enough to just SAY 'Yeah don't do this' but then have nothing in game to enforce it beyond being frowned on.

What did you think of the alternatives I proposed though, you never mentioned that part, like the no drop dead-zone around enemy brains? I don't see how that constitutes 'nerfed to the opposite extreme' to just change it so you can't drop directly ontop of the enemy brain. We already had 'only drop around your own brain' before in game, it would be no different then that only in reverse.

Meh, already said sorry about it.

At any rate, it's an interesting idea at the least, but about how far would it be? I'm thinking something like slightly bigger then what the previous drop-only zone around your brain was.

I agree with limiting the LZ to an area near own Brain; currently, all the purpose of fighting for each inch of terrain is lost since you can simply crate-crush your opposition.

I'd say more: I'd make the maps twice as larger as they are now, and only allow the landing of rockets in silos or hangars, thus encouraging the use of dropships and (not yet designed) armored vehicules to send strike squads as near as the enemy AA and AV turrets (not yet designed) could allow.

Well, I imagine that if there was a cost-efficient way of dropping things out of space, cheap, heavy boxes would be a decent weapon for the cost. IIRC that sort of thing happened in WWI, when planes were yet to get bombs, and they were dropping blades from the sky and stuff like that.

But at least, you could counter that tactic by throwing, I don't know... shields or boots at the enemy planes.

Seriously, do you have a link to back that? I ask out of curiosity.

I like the idea of having the LZ only around your brain unit, but having deployable LZ beacons as well. These could take three forms:
A beacon that is thrown like a bomb, it deploys on impact and provides a small area to land units
A larger beacon that is placed when building your base
A drone (like the coalition ones) that can move around

All of these can of course be destroyed to limit your opponents landing options, and it add's a little more strategy (escorting a beacon drone/beacon carrier into enemy territory and defending it). I think it would be a nice addition to the game
