Meta and postmodern are one and the same. The idea is to question the very reason for something's own existence from within itself. A photograph of a man taking a photograph, a book that ends with the author writing the first chapter of the book, or a movie about itself being made are all postmodern and question the very thought process and logic behind the artwork.
It stems from the artistic progression of romanticism and modernism (to explore beauty in the world, and to question the beauty of the world, respectively). It's very fashionable to be postmodern or "meta", since it implies a higher level of thought without actually requiring a great deal of concentration. You see people doing it all the time to try and look intelligent, and it normally works.
If you look at the one and only mafia forum game thread we have, you'll see that I employed the ability to express myself and the players around me in a postmodern format, in an attempt to force all of the players to do likewise and turn the game into a furious battle of choosing words extremely carefully.
Why am I explaining this in such detail? By making even this very paragraph postmodern I can show an Allstone-like knowledgeability and improve (albeit in tiny increments) my respect in the eyes of other forumgoers. It's a fair test of a man to challenge his concept of the motives behind reality, and anyone who replies with a definitive opinion is either very clever or very ignorant, but I can't tell which.

I'd run another mafia game but I realised that I am both too busy and too lazy to make an adequate GM, I can't even update my webcomic on any kind of reasonable schedule

I don't think there's much of a difference between the two.

But don't you just have to get people to join, tally their votes and kill who the mafia wants? Of course there are also special people like doctors, etc. but that shouldn't be TOO hard to run IMO.
Unless you're thinking of doing art for everything again.

You've obviously never tried running a forum game, let alone multiple at once. While being in college with a job.

i know that feel bro
...
What? I do. Plus my own interest rarely sticks for longer than a few pages. As a rule of thumb, if i'm doing something for the giggles, i'm going to stop once it no longer gives me the giggles. And then resume once it provides giggles again. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE GIGGLES.

Except you're the only one on this forum that fits that criteria AFAIA. MAYBE Yolady but I don't know.

Re: The Lounge
but why play forum games when you can actually play REAL video games
and your excuse isn't "because it's a different concept" or "unexpected outcomes".

...But that's exactly the point of playing forum games, at least for me. That's like saying, "Why are you against Hitler as a leader? And you can't say 'the Holocaust' or 'crimes against humanity' as your excuse."
