Goddammit, was gonna post basically exactly what Roast Veg just posted, but he managed to ninja me.

But yeah, currently the best way to enjoy the game is to ♥♥♥♥ around in Endless Skirmish Defense with mods.
You could also try getting Tartarus from the Scene Releases. It's a bucket of fun.

And good job at ignoring the whole

part.
The problems you have shouldn't be happening. I, for one, can play the campaign without any problems on a clean installation.
Instead of bashing on the game and missing on a great load of fun, you could try the actually enjoyable parts of the game instead of the unfinished parts.

New player. Won't generalize.

Dude. Just load Cortex Command with a dozen mods and have physics related fun on Skirmish.

It isn't that hard to give the game an actual chance. I've been with it for months and am dissapointed like you and even had to pay more than you and I'm not bitching that hard enough to make a novel.

Also no one gives a ♥♥♥♥ that you're a customer. We're all customers and you seem to be having a hard time grasping that.

Although I agree with you, the game was just released on Steam as version 1.0, so it's quite understandable that new customers think the game is finished.

On the plus side, some of the more irritating things are being fixed:

It's very understandable HackworthCC feels the way he does.
Seeing a game having version 1.0 gives the idea that the game is finished, and CC is far from that.
I myself am very amazed that Valve allowed CC to be a part of Steam in its current state.
This version of Cortex Command should have been B28, not 1.0.

Mods make the game a lot more fun. In my opinion they're necessary to have any fun to begin with. But new people can't be expected to buy a 'finished' game and find their way around some forum to download some good mods in order to feel they didn't waste 17 bucks.

Moral of the story: Take it easy on disappointed new people, because they have every right to be disappointed.

A bad install? Over Steam? When I haven't installed anything over the original files? Give me a heart-felt break, this is a pretty lame excuse for unimplemented/unfinished features.

And I'm not "bashing" the game. I've made it quite clear that I want this game to work for me, it just does not. I believe I've given constructive feedback, naming exactly what I found wrong. And again, putting out a 1.0 on Steam and then telling me to play mods to actually enjoy the game is quite a kick in the teeth.

Well something must've gone wrong with your installation / your campaign / your computer, since the campaign has worked just fine for me and Herbert.
I fear I may be repeating myself, but you should atleast try the endless skirmish defense. It's the oldest game mode in the game, and in my humble opinion, the most enjoyable game mode in the game.
And broken installations over steam may not be as rare as you might think. They don't happen everyday, of course, but I've seen a few, since I tend to uninstall/reinstall games a lot.

I've had some similar problems to Hackworth in a few of the campaigns I've played. They don't appear consistently.

That said, they're right about mods. It's (arguably) unfortunate, but mods really are the bulk of the game.

What's up with you trying to prove your point when you've already done it in the 2 books you've typed?
We get it, it'll be fixed and you seem to understand you're not getting a refund, so give us a heart felt break from your repetitive bull♥♥♥♥ about the 20 dollars your mom gave you that you apparently seem to think you wasted since you won't give THE REST OF THE GAME A TRY.

Edit for Luringen: Don't tell me what to do.

There is no reason to bash him, the game being released as 1.0 indicates that the game is finished, and as such, he has every right to be disappointed (I haven't seen the TotalBiscuit WTF is, so I don't know how well it points out how buggy the game still is).

Yes, we are all happy the game reached 1.0 (even though its far from done), but new customers have every right to be disappointed.

Edit: yes, he can and should give the rest of the game a try, but we should still treat him with some respect. If everybody had stayed polite in the beginning of the thread, I'm guessing so would he.

Edit2: Yes, "no indication of the game not being finished" is a double negative, and is confusing.

@Luringen, err, why are you quoting/replying to me? :???: I basically said what you said.

@Mackerel, man, have a chill pill. Why is it so hard to accept that people are disappointed by the current state of the game?

@Gotcha! Didn't mean it as a reply to you, just a quote. Just wanted to bring up my previous post and yours again as a reply to Mackerel.

I can accept it just fine, you're reading what I'm saying wrong.

He's posted 3 things so far and they're all about how he can't enjoy a video game with the same reasons.
I'm pissed because he can't seem to reply and take our advice about how he can still have fun with the 20 bucks he thinks he wasted. (10 imo)

I've had plenty of screwed up installs on steam(borderlands 2, Total War shogun 2, ETC) so just try validating your install, better safe than sorry.

Sadly, the game ran out of Steam many many years ago, and apart from an improved dropship AI and the ability to shoot through friendly troops, there hasn't been anything worthwhile added to the game for half a decade, if not more.
The core game has been great for as long as I've played it, despite its idiosyncrasies. The problem is that the campaign and the other game modes seem like an afterthought, with zero effort or care put into them. If the strategic portion of the game had been worked on with the same dedication and passion as the tactical portion of the game, it could have been amazing. Unfortunately, the game can be chalked up to yet another games with fantastic potential, but terrible execution.
