Re: The Lounge
There is no when, time is an illusion created for your comfort The past did not happen, only the present is real

Re: The Lounge
No really, why do everything exists? What's the idea behind existance?

Re: The Lounge
What do you mean "No, Really?" Do you honestly think that anyone on an internet message board based around an independently developed video game is going to know the answer to that question? Do you honestly think anyone on earth would be able to give you any kind of useful answer?
It's a stupid question.

Re: The Lounge
What if we're all just oranges? Oranges that are making this all up in their collective hivemind?

Asklar wrote: No really, why do everything exists? What's the idea behind existance? The fact is that anything we perceive as "existing" is only defined by arbitrary boundaries, including mathematics which is the most universal language we have. The problem is how we can count real objects when we have no accurate definition of one thing ending and another beginning? If I have three stones, how can I prove where the boundaries of one stone and the next are? Our entire perception of reality as we "discovered" it, is in fact based on an assumption we "created" in response to what our senses have told us. We can never truly understand existence because our senses do not cover a broad enough scope to be able to understand it, so until we evolve the ability to perceive anything at about 10^-23 metres, that question can never be correctly answered.

Re: The Lounge
Everything I learned in and about philosophy can be boiled down to this: Your perceptions are merely that: you cannot be absolutely sure that you see reality (see: insane people) You cannot tell that there are other sentient people outside your own consciousness (see again: insane people) You can debate and whine all you want about philosophy but beyond these points is all belief, not logic.

Re: The Lounge
Not only can you not prove that what you see is real, but you cannot prove that there is a reality at all, or indeed anything. Proving yourself is debatable, especially as you might well be attempting to prove it to people who do not exist.

So in other words, its more than likely one of us is just having this extremely meta discussion inside their head. I vote for collective orange consciousness.

Re: The Lounge
The only thing that you can be certain of is that everything you perceive exists, in a way. Either it does, or it does in your head.
And Nicolas, no, just no.
