I wouldn't approve at all if it were trying to sell itself as a proper TA/SupCom sequel (similar to how SupCom 2 went lighter on the graphics) rather than a spiritual sequel, and if it weren't UberEnt at the helm, but they (and Valve, via TF2) have made me come to like the 'low detail' deal they have going on. It's clear, concise, and you know exactly what you're looking at when you see it. Plus it's effectively mandatory if they really want to be able to have these gigantic battles they plan on. Less weight on your RAM and GPU in terms of textures needed, so they can devote more oomph to what really matters - the gameplay. That and I think it helps highlight the more comical and over-the-top nature of gameplay they have planned, rather than making it look like a superdetailed superserious war simulator.

Re: Planetary Annihilation
It's not very cartoony IMO; it just gives it this really clean, geometric, shiny look that I find appealing.
Especially that rocket ship. That was awesome.

Re: Planetary Annihilation
Well, I hope there is enough violence to make me forget the look of the cartoony graphics. But giving it a second look, it isn't very cartoony. I hope it doesn't go more cartoony.
Cartoony cartoony cartoony cartoony!

TF2 is the market's darkest, grittiest, most realistic first person hat simulator

TheKebbit wrote: you complain about cartoonyness and you play team fortress 2 I don't play TF2. I used to play a lot of time ago. And I never played much, anyway, compared to other games that I'm a fan of. And it's different, TF2 has a plot which matches the cartoon style, but the plot of Total Annihilaton and Supreme Commander were very serious, so I agree that they can have simple models and textures, but not very cartoony.

Re: Planetary Annihilation
Anything cartoony makes less lag in my computer. I guess that happens with some of you guys' too. Anyway, look at this: I think Skyrim looks better like that than the original way. Maybe it's just me? Oh, and that is a no-textures option for Skyrim. Just Googl-- I can do it for you.

Not everything has to look photo realistic.
I think most attempts at realism look like ♥♥♥♥ anyway. At best they're just impressive from a programming/technical standpoint.

Re: Planetary Annihilation
To be honest, cartoony TA really works well. Try playing the Spring project, the maps and units tend to be a bit on the cartoony side compared to Supreme Commander, and it's still very fun.
Besides, so far, PA isn't slated to have a story, just multiplayer.
