Re: Tribes: Ascend
I just now tried it, and so far I'm enjoying the gameplay a lot, especially running away when I've got the flag. The pay-to-win aspects are a pretty big turnoff, though.

Re: Tribes: Ascend
Yeah, it doesn't look like you have to throw lots of money at it to get anywhere, but it's the principle of the thing. Having it work that way at all is just somewhat distasteful, I think.

Re: Tribes: Ascend
The game does it well enough that I don't mind and it's a better system than Blacklight or Battlefield Heroes where you can only get the god stuff for more than 2 hours if you cough up a gob of cash.

Re: Tribes: Ascend
I haven't spent a penny and I usually end up in the top 3 if its a good day (and if my mouse isn't spazzing out).
I personally think the purchase system is quite well thought out. Some purchasable weapons might pack a stronger punch than the ones you get for free, but there are always counterbalances (such as lower fire rate or smaller splash aoe) which keep everything in check.
I do kinda wish that they would make the soldier spinfusor a bit cheaper though since it seems like such a good weapon for the class.

Huh. I just got a Tribes Ascend Spin Fusor code.
Anyone want it? I don't play Tribes.

Re: Tribes: Ascend
Oh yes, started playing this yesterday, and i'm pleasantly surprised by how fun it is. I usually don't play PvP games, but... Well, this is just that fun! Rolling the Soldier style because Thumper is my soul mate. Assault Rifle is effectively my secondary weapon for taking potshots. Barrelling into the enemy flagstand like an explosive murder train is the funniest thing ever. (scored my first triple kill that way rghrghrgrh (inb4youhavehundredsofteamkills))
