Well, the reason I'd buy Assault on Black Reach is only that it has everything you need to play aside from the models.

Guess I'll just wait for the new set.

Well, now you don't, since AOBR brings the 5th ed rules.

Long time no see, DRFF!
Sorry for not popping back here for so long. Been busy doing this and that.

Anyways, my latest painted model, Nemesor Zand- I MEAN LORD CASTELLAN CREED.

Image

Hopefully a good start for my necr- I MEAN IG army.

As to the other matters...
AoBR is a neat way of getting extra models and dice/templates. By the way, the pamphlets and gaming accessories are on sale for $3 a piece at Bits And Kits, if anyone's interested.

Foil, your model is already a long way towards greatness. However, note how patchy some of the colors feel, specially the metallics and the white on the pauldron. It'd be a good idea to use a coat or two more of paint in those cases, since an uniform coat helps out a lot when going over the details.

Also, Imperial Primer. I can't recommend this thing enough. Even if you spray-prime your models, this paint is just so amazing at covering up the grey plastic that it's more than worth it to go over them looking for any unpainted or blotchy corners. It's incredibly better than Chaos Black.

I want an army solely composed with that model. It's just so chunky.

Heh, thanks. It's mainly the Lychguard kit, that thing is just amazingly huge and armored, even compared to the other crons.

This little gem here.

You get a veritable ton of these in the lichguard sprue, and it's pretty easy to chop up the sides and make a PF.

Post Re: WH40k discussion
I'm VERY interested in the tabletop aspect of the 40K universe. I have almost all DoW games, and I want to try out tabletop.
I don't want to play games at first, I just want to see if I can paint worth a damn.
Would this be good for starting?

Also, could you guys give me some tips or maybe a paragraph-long guide into painting? I know I could just look online, but I'm lazy and it feels better getting it from you guys.

Sorry to break it to you, but the set you intend to buy is out of production.

Get This Thing instead. It's a bit more expensive, but you get more paints. Consider getting a can of imperial primer too, that stuff is magic.

As for painting, well, it's pretty straightforward. Most important step, THIN YOUR PAINTS. I can't stress this enough, you want to be painting with 2-4 thin coats, and NOT one strong coat. Ever.
Anyways, here's the process. Prime the entire model, then paint the larger areas with the colours you want them to be. Wait for that to dry, paint the details. Wait for that to dry, go over the recessed areas and add a tad (just a tad, unless you want a dirty model. Which can be okay for some armies, but usually not marines) with some dark wash ink. Presto, there it is.

There are many other painting techniques, but for your first model it's not really worth bothering with them. Don't be surprised if you're not satisfied with the end result, either. Usually takes a few tries to get the basics right.
