Post Request for B28
I know it's too early, but I really really REALLY really REALLY would like to see a History mode in CC. Like, it's not you wish to play with that faction, but it's a whole history, where you play as a brain in base defenses, and then you gotta help another squad who is trying to destroy a bunker in the desert, and then you discover that everything was a plan from the Ronin, and that they were trying to bombard a place with some artillery, and then that and then this, it would make CC a lot better.
As Scene modders like WeeGee (on the first place because of his pro'ality), Bad Boy, etc. can make great histories like that one in SHIELD: Under Siege, I really think that CC developers would make that stuff in CC.
Oh, and a new forum: Campaign Releases(optional...well...not that everything else is required, it's just a request :D). That would be where people would make their own campaigns and share with others, that way CC's own campaigns wouldn't get dead.
PS: I posted this here because I don't think this would be much of a Mod Request. If I am wrong, just delete/whatever you admins do with wrong-posted topics/lock this topic.
PPS: This doesn't has to be done, it's just an idea.

First, there will be no B28. There will be CC 1.0.

Second, that's called story mode, and it's been pretty much decided that it's not going to happen, outside of scripted missions.

Third, why bother with a campaign subforum? You'd have a long string of boring posts, of which none amount to more than "I played Coalition against three Browncoats on the same team and won, yay me."

Most importantly, though, most of the above information has been mentioned several times in heavily trafficked portions of the forum, so you'd have known if you'd been paying attention.

Does that about cover it?

EDIT: D'aww, Gotcha wins.

Wow Nocifer, sorry :( I didn't mean to offend you, or if you are mean like that always, then... let's get used to it :)

I only have an answer for the forum one: It isn't going to be telling histories about people's games, it will be about modded campaigns, different ones.

Anyway, this ends here : ( ....... :´( BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I am indeed a soulless machine. Frankly, I'd thought I was actually reasonable there. And okay, so it'd come down to "I played SAW against UniTec and it was laggy because SAW is too awesome to not lag" or whatever.

Well... er... it doesn't have to be that way.

For example, if certain constants could get changed (better yet, if we could just plain alter the Actor's data tables, which I guess is possible already if the Actor Viewer load feature is working again) and using Lua to manipulate inventory was a bit less whacky, we could have RPG-like heroes that grew during a campaign, and code up a campaign AI that would make choices that were actually interesting. We could have maps that changed dynamically according to who owns them. We could have "random encounters" and all the RPG trappings.

One of the bigger things that I honestly think should be changed is how the Metafight works; it's not using Lua to determine where the AI goes and the logic's all buried in the engine. I hope that's not the way it's going to work in the longer term; it'd be nice to be able to write a campaign AI and segmented events.

Oh, and don't forget that maps can run their own code. I presume Weegee, who basically made a campaign mode of his own because Metafight took so darn long to actually work, is smart enough to hook into the global tables and write some maps that can be used in Metafight but affect other maps.

In short, the Metafight probably needs to be opened to Lua; I really think the whole thing should be written with Lua so that it's keeping as little in the engine as possible. If the creativity applied to the scenario stuff could be applied to a larger, more sandbox-friendly campaign system, I suspect that CC would very quickly become a very deep and interesting game. Just think how much more depth was created merely by getting Metafight to work in the most basic way possible; this is literally just the basics of what could become a very interesting thing.

You're calling him out on an extremely coherent post when your last post was this?

Yeah, I guess you're right; that would actually be a relatively simple change that would allow for some of this to work. Still, it's not likely to happen; I'm guessing that as much as it's a simple change, it's probably a much more complex process for the devs, who have basically said that they're not including the functionality that opening up the campaign to lua would allow. Certainly, they wouldn't have to do any more than that for the modding community to basically do the rest for them, but it's probably just not high on the list of priorities.

Also I shot Joseh down because he phrased his unrealistic, uninformed request inarticulately. Tomaster's right; it's not that difficult to avoid looking like an idiot. He can even still hang on to his unrealistic expectations, as long as he realizes that's what they are, and discusses them as such. We all want a more compelling "story" mode for the game, yeah; it's just that most of us realize it's not gonna happen, seeing as we were all listening when we were told "it's not gonna happen".

People are getting rude here, I'm starting to get too. And what if I am from elementary school? You got something against that? Do you hurt kids every day or something? Stop being like that man, get less nervous.

Yes, because I think 12 year olds shouldn't be on a forum unless they can put together coherent sentences, I must be hitting children. Solid point. Great way to discredit your detractors. Don't bother actually addressing the issues we've brought up, just say we were rude, nervous (what?), child abusing ♥♥♥♥.

Someone lock this thread before I start actually getting mean.

Nah it's just that we have this thing when you register you agree that you're 13 years or older.

It's there for a reason.

Contrary to what you might think, people do not like to converse with people of lower typing capabilities.

If you want to stay here you might want to keep a low profile until you learn to converse properly, or you're going to end up in trouble at some point.

Also, it's a legal thing. With lots of fun paperwork involved!
