[WIP] Extended Core Factions (5.5 items and rising)
Hey there, all the CC players and modders. Recently I've stumbled upon the website full of fluff about Cortex Command, including some great ideas about expanding the already existing factions (especially thanks to concept arts), and even creating two or three new ones while still keeping the lore safe - so beginning my quest to expand the game without overexpanding it's lore, adding crafts / devices / infantry / vehicles / weaponry to all the existing factions to begin with. (Dummies already have it covered thanks to Major's Dummy Expansion Pack, so I probably won't even touch them).
First off, a small to-do list.
Coalition: - Cargo Rocket - Done - Tank from the intro - In Progress - Heavy (armored) brainbot; No, not the pre-B24 thing. More like one of these; - Stationary defense cannon (Placed with a special bunker module, unbuyable in-battle) - Done - Armed &Armored Drop Ship - Done by AsPic - Stationary flak cannon - Done
Imperatus: - Additional weaponry, especially the heavy stuff - Halted - Special heavy digging tools, Imperatus being a resource-gathering conglomerate - In Progress - Possibly a special digging / concrete-spewing bot - Rocket turret? Or some other rocket-based defense system - In Progress
Browncoats: - Special drop pod - Done - Napalm rocket, sent as a (suicidal) cargo craft - In Progress - ..I don't really think they need anything more. Maybe a gun or two, or something boosting their bunker defenses, like flamer turret. And a special sort of dropship, I guess.
Ronin: - Old, rusty drop ship - cheap and steady, yet slow and fragile - Overbuilt brainbot (heavier, improvised armor) - Possibly special bunker modules, such as improvised barricades and such
Uzira (AKA the Knights or the Order): - Uzira herself as a "brain", with both armored and armorless versions - Improved 'jetpackless clones' (both with and without armor of sorts) as soldiers - Fully armored clones (with jetpacks, obviously) - Possibly restrict the "default weaponry" (Blunderbuss etc) to only this fraction - Hardened shields, to give them time to get to close-quarters without their jets - Special, melee variant of the armored clones, armed with swords and heavier shields and armor. They would be the elite, especially effective dropped off in the middle of a skirmish.
This faction would be quite specific because of it's emphasis on cheap, jetpackless soldiers, making manevuering the dropships all over the battlefield and soldier-insertion crucial for it's success. I wanted to try working with Techion (AKA the Whitebots), but there is already quite a lot of Whitebot mods; and I'll still have to think over the Mu-Ilaak stuff.
And now, jumping to the finished content:
--- Coalition --- - Transport Rocket
Coalition's Cargo Rocket is similar to TradeStar's Rocket Mk1, yet it's a bit more compact, heavier and somewhat more durable; it's a standard-issue old model, used by the Coalition to quickly transfer soldiers to their outposts faster (and cheaper) than using the Dropships.
- Cargo Rocket Pod
Smaller and better armored version of Coalition's MkI Cargo Rocket, this model is used for deep strike squad insertions; rarely used as a suicide bomb in comparison to it's big brother.
When there comes a need for a bigger, more reliable and/or precise way of orbit-to-ground transport, Coalition usually makes use of it's Drop Ship Thunderhawk, military response to TradeStar's very popular transport craft. Similar in terms of versatility yet slightly better armored. Newer models come with a built-in machineguns. (No machinegunned version yet - Adecristo)
- Stationary Defense Cannon and Flak Cannon
Heavy armored stationary gun, designed to be able to protect an outpost from both panzer attacks, heavy infantry and aerial troop insertions. (Placeable as a new modules during the base building phase; it's preview looks like a simple concrete platform with a bulge)

--- Browncoats --- - Transport Rocket
Browncoats' main way of orbit-surface transport, the Space Shark cargo rocket is a reliable, compact version of TradeStar's Rocket Mk1. (The exit door is placed higher than shown on the screenshot, I've corrected it after making the screen)
Outdated Download (please download the combined pack at the bottom of the post, it's up to date): Mediafire - Browncoats Pack (Unpacking it will replace the Index.ini to add the "Extended.ini" - including line. Nothing else will be replaced, everything from the Browncoats pack is stored in a separate "Browncoats.rte/Extended/" folder.) Opinions and ideas would be greatly appreciated, as I'm quite new to modding Cortex Command ('been modding other games, though, including .ini-based, like Soldat and LieroX). Wow, this looks like this is gonna be really good. Good job on the mod so far as well, the rocket looks quite nice, although a bit lighter than the Coalition's usual colors.
Also: This is your first post? DAMN, son. A good first post, well formatted and everything, as well as a good first mod? Welcome to the forums man, I expect you'll get a lot of respect if things keep heading the way they are for you now.
This looks really nice so far! Although I agree with Miggles. That green is a bit too bright for Coalition colors.
By the "Tank from the intro" I assume that you mean the bipedal mech with the turret on the front, yes?
Remember, if a certain task seems daunting, you can always ask for coding/sprite help here. We're typically a friendly community.

Most probably, yes. This will take a bit to do, but I'll probably work on her faction in between working on all the other stuff, as I also really want to see it finished. The concept art is just way too good, in my opinion, to be left behind.

It'll either be the Tank (if I get to understand all the lua stuff; but I guess I'll be fine), Imperatus weaponry / tools or Ronin bunker stuff. These 3 are probably one of the first to be finished; I also can't wait to make the Coalition dropship and defense cannon, so they might be in the first three-five too.

Nice first post.
I've been "extending" the vanilla factions too myself, but now I'm mostly waiting for the full version to come out.
That rocket looks awesome. Can't wait to see the dropship.

Another modder made sprites for a (sadly unimplemented) Coalition Dropship already, though it looks out of proportion compared to the concept.
The rocket is a good start, though it looks a little too tall compared to the concept, on top of the already-mentioned colour concerns. Plus dual nozzles vs single nozzle and everything.

Wonderful, I'll probably include them in my pack until I'll make something better somehow, with all due credit to original authors. Will have to check, whether they work on B27, though. The tank's (Coalition Dreadnought's) sprites look a bit below the original art's level and it's legs are a bit small, so I'll try and polish it. Also, I didn't intend to recreate the conceptual rocket, but tried to make my own which would look good along the other rockets. I'll probably make the smaller, more concept-like variant later though, as a tougher, more compact and more expensive version.
@Edit, the dread's legs are EXTREMELY small and walk horrifyingly fast. It also makes the sounds of a crab and is extremely weak. ...So, yeah, quite the lot of work to be done.

I was planning on doing this for a long time, as well as started on doing the Concept armies that wasn't created in the game ( at the moment only have the Green dummies in a very low Alpha of a sort, but shortly stopped working on them simply because i didn't have time to focus on such a mod)

Found the thread, no files though. Dead and empty, which is quite sad. I'll try to do my best even while being overshadowed by this sort of a legendary mod, nonetheless.

@OP, I've done a massive rocket recolor, created the smaller rocket (a bit more similar to AndroidArt's concept art) and threw in the AsPic's DropShip (I claim no copyrights to it, obviously). Could've done something more impressive today, but I was busy calibrating photoshop's color palette to make drawing Coalition's stuff easier. First post modified (added/modified the stuff and added a new download link)

Have you seen the mod "Combined Forces" by thesoupiest?
