I mean, just Cortex Command. Have the default filepath in the installer point to the user's documents or something. Perhaps have a little note - "Notice: Game is borked when installing to Program Files" - in the installer, too.

Yeah, that is the thing, the default installation directory is putting the game into a location which has (apparently) been seen to cause problems.

Why not just C:\Data Realms\Cortex Command ?

Judging by recent @DataRealms tweets, it's a foregone conclusion, and there will be a Steam Release, or at the very least they're hoping for one. That or they're just taunting us. :P

Also, it's entirely possible that Steam has some sort of system that allows games that might not normally work if installed under Program Files to run even if you put it into Program Files.

Which makes me wonder-- if the release does pan out, will there be a way to transfer current licenses over to Steam?

If it does release on Steam, I imagine it quite likely that people who already own it will get a Steam key. In most cases, they simply use the same key for Steam as is used elsewhere.

Bonk indeed! ^__^
Of course, apart from a ton of extra publicity/whatever, what else does Steam bring us? I'm sure there's something interesting... :)

Besides the obvious Shift+TAB switching/friends seeing you're playing it and easy patching, groups could form for CC players and also you can take screenshots with F12. It's pretty great. It would open up a lot of opportunities for new things to be added or modified or tested. Steam workshop integration would be cool too, for mod making/releasing.

Two thousand Coalition Light first mod resprites, daily.
Seriously speaking though, hopefully the bulk of the scrubs stay at the Steam Forums.

And no, Workshop certainly wont help with testing, from a development viewpoint it's just an extra step between notepad and the game.

But yeah. It will expose the game to an ludicrously large audience, generating many a dorra.
If nothing else, it will enable Data to make his next game. Perhaps even in only six years this time.

My bet is still on eight years.

Wouldn't one also be able to just relocate the game files and then redirect Steam's shortcuts?
