... showoff, *grumbles*.

anyways, that is pretty damn good, coloring and shading were never really my strong suits, so nice job.
was the dropship hard to color? or did you just not like it much?

Well thanks! I wasn't trying to showoff either, just got bored. Technically I'm not very good at coloring and shading either, I use very very very simplistic methods of shading... And the dropship was good! I just didn't feel like coloring it. Some of your proportions are off and it is a bit disfigured, but you did a surprisingly good job on actually getting all the details in there.

Proportions were hard on the soldier, that's for sure.

and you wouldn't believe how annoying getting all the little details of the dropship were.

The perspective seems sort of all over the place, I can't even tell if it's supposed to be a 3D landscape or a game-style 2D cross-section

Yeah, this looks better. But there is no perspective for the scene, all objects are rendered from (roughly) the same (object independent) perspective (i.e 3/4 view)... Except the rocket and terrain but I can't really get around the terrain since it's a slice away and there is no depth to show. I admit the lighting is ♥♥♥♥.

I guess it's just the 3D nature of the dropship door and the rock that the crab are standing on that's messing up my perception

Yeah, I'd choose either for a completely 2D or completely 3D (last I think would be nicest), since mixing the two doesn't quite seem to work. The robot looks promising, it's got a nice pose and I really like the overall concept of the scene (gotta love those flying dropship doors and engines).

Anyways, got a tablet for my birthday yesterday! I've been messing around with it for a while, it's a lot of fun.
It will take me some more practice and fiddling with stuff to get completely used to drawing with it, but overall it's pretty intuitive.

I always thought Snake and Adam Jensen looked a bit alike, so I went ahead and attempted to blend their faces.

I don't think you could say the perspective is wrong, per se, I'm emulating game behaviour (where each element is a pre rendered sprite of a 3D object). The reason it looks odd is because of the cross-section of terrain and basically you can't have pre-rendered 3D objects that are randomly generated in the way CC does without it looking like they are on top of the terrain (i.e. if you place that in front of something it's going to look like it's in front no matter what)... Unless I drew them as though they were submerged into the terrain, which I agree would look better (and should probably do because I know where you're coming from and it has been bugging me too).

However you could call me lazy for drawing the rocket in 2D but that I consider more of a background element (and a pain in the ass to re-do).

Also I like that image but I think it just looks like snake.

Personally I'd say there's probably always something wrong if it takes several goes for someone to be able to grasp what the perspective of what they are meant to be looking at is and if that is not the intention of the piece, but maybe that's just me :P

I'm fairly happy with the above ground stuff though: http://i.cubeupload.com/OC1gkV.png if this looks fine to you then like I said I just need to work on the rocks.

It still looks to me like he's reaching out with his stump to an arm some way in front of him rather than to his left, even though I think his actual pose is meant to be just after having his arm knocked off. This continues to add to the feeling that the composition isn't quite right, as he isn't really at the right size for that to make any sense.

I'm really not following you on that... His arm has been ripped off and all that is left is some loose wiring and some structural junk... You think this stuff appears to be in front of the body? Bear in mind that the robot isn't anywhere near complete anyway. Also I feel that the scale of all the objects is correct (bar the rocket... again).

Feel free to draw over the image, it's easier than describing anyway.

The scale is correct yes, it's just something about his positioning (and perhaps the fact that the dropship door is more complete than the robot, and at a different angle) that makes me think that the arm is meant to be closer to the viewer than the robot despite the fact that it is not.
I'm not really sure how you'd fix that, although it might just go away by itself when everything is as finished as the dropship door is and that brings it less to the front of my attention.

Honestly to start with I thought it was an ammunition clip or something, purely because of that weird scale my brain was inventing for me.
