I personally play CC since I find it's a fun way to learn the basic structures of programming. Even though Lua isn't a "real" programming language (I believe it's just a programming language extension right?), the basic programming structure and logic is the same, plus it's just awesome seeing a bunch of lines you've typed out manifest itself as some sort of mysterious power in the game.
So for what reason do you play CC? BECAUSE IT'S FRIGGIN AWESOME!

love you guys Lua is a scripting language in that it's interpreted ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpreted_language), but it's almost like a full blown programming lang in its capability and power. CC has pretty good lua bindings, but our next project (CVE) will take it much farther! You'll be able to script almost everything, including the joints, control mappings, and behaviors of vehicles/robots

For that feeling that you will never be Safe. You could last 100 hours or 10 seconds from a random Dropship door Smashing your Brainbot. Also how Squishy humans are usually easier to kill. Seems Starwars Humans were not the Meatbags they claimed to be.

Re: For what reason do you play Cortex Command?
i play the game because of the amount of replayability in the game, moddability, gameplay, and originality. i mean, the last thing to come to mind when someone mentions original games is a game where you have a brain in some fictional world controlling mindless bodies with guns shooting each other then the next second you have dropship coming in killing them all with crab bombs or have spacemarines come out of no where and shoot everyone to death in seconds. not to mention the mostly mature forums.

Pretty much what everyone else here has said. The modding, it's uniqueness, how unpredictable it is, the physics, the awesome, the random dropship doors that flies halfway across the maps... trotskygrad wrote: I play it because it's one of the best 2D games out there, period. This.

Re: For what reason do you play Cortex Command?
I play it for all the little quirks and funny moments that can be caused. Like the crabnuke, or abducting enemy troops with a dropship and selling them, or having a new unit delivered via dropcrate in just the right spot that it finishes off a critically wounded troop, or digging up into the enemy base and shooting their brain when they least expect it, or blocking in all their soldiers with the concrete gun, or jetpacking one of your soldiers face first into an enemy, and so on and so forth. Just so many wacky antics that can be had, and this isn't even considering mods.

Re: For what reason do you play Cortex Command?
1]Great concept - build base, manage resource, order custom units, control any unit yourself, send units to perform different tasks - Mix of different game types into one
2]Physics - fully destructible terrain and items, weight of soldiers, guns and tools affects the unit itself, you get the real feel of the materials in the game such sand, snow, armor - Extremely unique
3]Gameplay - Even though there is very few scenario maps to play on, the matches are NEVER the same. I never know what will happen when I play again and again. The music in the game fits perfectly. The World map soundtrack, the Scan at the beginning of a round soundtrack and of course in game soundtrack - just perfect. Also, the crazy stuff that happens due to AI not being perfect! My favorites are zombies with diggers ordered to dig gold and Rockets delivering the troops. There is some crazy sh!t happening with these rockets and each time one delivers something, I never know if it will even land without killing everyone this time... lol
4]Creativity - The amounts of guns and tools in the game is the most creative I've seen. Not only creative but usefull and create nearly endless possibilites of how a player want to play a game. Materials such concrete and steel and different types of diggers which have different power levels and are required to cut through different materials. The types of grenades, scanners and tools like time bombs, c4 and detonators. The list goes on and on.
This game is truly unique and has unlimited potential. I cannot imagine this game all polished up and with multiplayer option some day. Say - CC2 built on Cave Vehicle Engine. New more expanded factions, in game options, weapons, more types of resources, research trees etc. It would blow everyone's brainz - not only in the game, but literally, lol

For the modding all the way, pumping out ridiculous amounts of guns actors and craft is huge fun.

Re: For what reason do you play Cortex Command?
The interesting ways actors and objects break apart and subjected to forces in the game made me drool into getting into this action. All we need is a capture the enemy base map and it would rock! like you both start off at a huge amount of gold, then build and fight to the death!
