A game event you asked for, and a game event you shall receive.

The Chermanshire Rifles Royal Guard, along with Lord Robert, are making a desperate last stand around Castle Grey. Most of the furniture from inside the castle has been used to block off any passages towards the castles main entrance. Simple land mines have been scattered near the east approach. These mines are simple pressure pads that explode when anything steps on them, filled with ball bearings. Towards the west, however, are magical sinks. These sinks absorb magical energy, returning it directly to the Plane of Mana from whence it came. The magical sinks can drain magic only once or twice before collapsing into small magical vortexes that spew random magical energy. These vortexes are hardly a threat, they are around the size of a dinner plate, and the 'fireballs' that are released are more like large sparks than real fireballs. Still, these unstable magical forces can prove to be deadly - they can occasional tunnel into the land's between life and death. There are nightmare's there that no mortal was meant to see.

A column of Stein infantry, supported by a Juggernaut advance towards the eastern barricade, and they receive quite a surprise when the first mines start exploding, turning men to pincushions. The infantry advance stops, they fall back while the Juggernaut stomps the ground to detonate mines.

Lord Robert see's this, and takes the initiative.
"Just where the hell are you going?"
"They've left that Juggernaut without infantry support. They are much easier to kill when they do that."
"Are you insane?!?"
"Mostly. Just roll."
"Fine..."

Lord Robert runs forward, vaulting over the barricades and lands directly in front of the Juggernaut. He unsheathed his sword, its red runes alight.

"9!" yelled the small metallic ball, spinning at a hurricane like speed before returning to its regular pace.

And with that, Robert grabbed the leg of the Juggernaut, and hoisted himself up as it moved. The Royal Guard kept it distracted by firing at its head, but it returned fire, killing six soldiers and maiming seven with its first volley. Robert grabbed onto the arm joint, then used that to lift himself up to the top of the torso. He lifted his sword high, resisting all attempts of the Juggernaut to shake him off.

He thrust his sword directly into the gap between the head and the shoulder, a thin metal plate shattered under the force of the blow. Inside the chest of the Juggernaut, the sword had gone between the gears of its heart, interrupting the life force. The Juggernaut fell to a knee, then forward completely, severely wounded and rendered unconscious.

Robert ripped his sword out of the Juggernaut's wound, spraying hydraulic fluid across his breastplate.

He let out a fierce cheer, his men cheering too, stepped off the Juggernaut and onto the cobble stone road.

"Get a demolition expert. I want that Juggernaut destroyed."
"Well done my lord."

However, around the city, things were going much worse then they were at the castle. The soldiers at the east have been crushed, and are retreating towards the city centre. The battle train is setting the city alight, the fire is spreading from roof to roof, aided by the fire elementals at the west, along with the air elementals fanning the flames, at least, unintentionally. Some of the most well experienced Rifles however, were indeed pushing the Stein forces back towards the wall, advancing a few meters at a time into the flank of the Stein forces.

Towards the west, the initial magic thrust had slowed down. The magi had exhausted most of their energy, and needed to rest for a moment to regain the energy. The titanic golem had stood still, waiting for its masters to recover from the mentally draining feat of getting such a monstrosity to move. As such, the non magical forces of the Olvitium army, the Enchanted Guard, started looting the western half of the city in search of potions for their magi brethren. On the east, the situation was quite similar, the Imperial Hussars had too started looting buildings. Unlike the magi of Olvitium, they did not have trained healers, and so they immediately set to looting industrial apothecaries and ammunition factories.

The advance for both sides had come to a stand still, but only temporarily. The Imperial Hussars of Stein were licking their wounds from the beating the Chermanshire Rifles had just given them, while the Enchanted Guard searched for supplies to energize the offensive once more. Small groups of soldiers from both sides still roam the city, hitting the Rifles where it hurts to keep them off balance. Demons of Death have obeyed the order to withdraw momentarily, while the Demons of War are feral, kicking in doors of buildings to feast on anyone who may be inside.

The legendary Death Watch of Stein are also moving around the city in small teams, assassinating officers of both Olvitium and Chermanshire. It's only a matter of time until they reach Castle Grey and Lord Robert.

End of event.

Alright. I've ceased the battle for a turn or two while the two factions regain their strength. The supply lines are not yet set up and the fierce resistance from the Chermanshire Rifles has surprised both sides. Fighting for your home, your family and your life tends to be a good motivator.

This little reprieve of fighting, unless you intentionally go looking for a fight, is a way to try and find war assets, such as medical supplies, equipment, people, and more. The maximum amount of War Score you can get from Chermanshire is 2500, its up to the Tech Fairies how much each is worth, but for a benchmark, Lord Robert is worth 250 war score. This is because he is a great and well loved leader, which is a boost to morale, along with a excellent soldier and general. Not only that, but many people see him as the spirit of Chermanshire, its balance between science and magic made flesh.

I also really did roll for Lord Robert. His ability to fight and survive depends on good rolls, just like that of the players :grin:

I just want to clear something up. DM's, whenever you put a war score object in, give it a number value, and exactly what it does. The number is just a representation of how powerful the thing is. So a blacksmith with a war score of 100 would be average, a blacksmith with a warscore of 200 would be a master, and one with a score of 300 would be grand master level.

So the higher the war score for the blacksmith in that example, the better things he can create. It's the same with other things. Medical supplies could have levels too, 50 war score medical supplies would be a crate of bandages, for example.

So a War Score is for any valuable item or character? You say it's just an indicator, but how does a City have it?

(Basically, gimme a definition please)

Yeah, I'm not quite sure of what you mean, either. At first I thought the city's war score was some kind of counter showing the value of everything in it, but if a single blacksmith can have 100 war score, then obviously it's gotta be a hell of a lot higher than 2500 (the value you gave us).

Hmmmmmm.

There are only six players. That's hardly enough to wage a war with, even a guerilla one.

And that, is what the Chermanshire Rifles are going to be for. I'll try and keep track of all the War Score variables, shouldn't be too hard to do.

You hold one hand forward, clutching your wrist with your free hand and concentrating mana into a ball in front of it. A small ball of smokey clouds and crackling lightning forms, and you will it to thrust forward. It shoots forward expanding, and rapidly grows to a very large cloud of thundering death. Then suddenly it reverses direction.
The damn Air Elemental blew the storm back at you. You swear loudly and leap to the side (1+1=2), and manage to avoid the brunt of the storm, but still get shocked by a few stray zaps. The cloud hits the wall and billows outward, causing you to continue running from the spreading deathcloud. The little ball of light zooms alongside you, chirping rapidly.

Skeev sidles over to the western window again and sits on a chair for stable shooting. He watches for those hated Magi or anyone helping them, and spots a tight group of what looks to be soldiers with a Magi with them. One of them is hauling a sack of stuff over his shoulder. Skeev takes aim at the Magi ...

CRACK

... and gets another headshot. That makes four altogether. The soldiers begin firing their own ranged magic at him, taking chunks out of the tower. He drops below the window for cover with his rifle.
