The military is one of the best professions out there. You'll always have your paycheck pretty much guaranteed on the end of the month, they won't fire you, unless you kill the wrong people and they can, and often do, pay for your university.

I regret not joining when I was given the change a while back.

But the paycheck (unless you're higher-ranked or a specialist) is minimal, and there is the whole element of risking your life if you're deployed overseas.

According to Wikipedia they haven't been in a war since WWII but maybe it's wrong.

Highly unlikely. And if you CHOOSE, because you're not obligated to, be deployed where your country has troops (like the EU in Afghanistan) that poor paycheck is doubled or tripled. Not too shabby for a pretty much guaranteed job.

Anybody know if a high AFQT on your ASVAB is actually useful? From what I've read, anything above like a 65 doesn't really matter for anything other than bragging rights.

Asklar, I'm pretty sure you could do a support role if you wanted, working in the military offices or some such.

Everything on this list counts as in the army in the UK. You don't have to be on the front line's to be in the army.

In fact, just from a brief look on that site I apparently already have the training to qualify as a combat engineer. I could be shipped to a training grounds in less then three weeks.

Just see what your army has to offer, you might actually find something you enjoy.

One thing I'm sure though, is that in the case that I decided to join, I'd have to work out a lot before going in, since I'm not a very athletic person, but I do have potential.
