There is very little cover on the road itself, and moving through the forest is awkward.

The Techs seem disinclined to part with their tools for now. What would a medic need with tools anyway?

Neither CD-V5 nor Jones can spot a sniper in the tower, and even if there was, said sniper would have to shoot through the glass at the top anyway. It looks more like an air control tower than a guard tower. Lots of antennae on the roof too...

No motion on the tactical HUD. In fact you're not sure it can even sense motion, or at least not to the degree an actual motion sensor can.

As your group closes on the tower, the trees thin out, and it becomes obvious it is actually a small compound surrounded by a large concrete wall about eight feet tall. The road runs straight through it, and the gates on both sides are open.

Ripped open, that is.

Two long Quonsets are set up on the far side of the camp to your right - the tower is almost right in front of you to the left. A set of faded stencils on each side of the compound gateways and half-way up the tower all say “ECHO”.

To your right as you enter is some kind of radar van... or might’ve been a radar van. It’s wrecked, now. It doesn’t take a genius to see whatever did it pretty much tore it apart like it was made out of tissue paper, but there aren’t any burn marks. No explosives.

Whatever did this was probably big, angry, and most of all, probably organic. On the other hand, a mech or guy in a heavy exosuit could’ve ripped it apart too, so it’s hard to be sure.

The tower is on the left, with a door facing the road. Beyond that is a very, very old heavy armoured personnel carrier, it looks like one of the old amphibious models that the Marines phased out about a decade ago. The surviving units must have gone to frontier colonies like this one... they were always quite robust. It doesn’t appear to be damaged beyond wear and tear.

There are no other signs of a struggle at the camp beyond the ruined gates and wrecked van. No broken windows, no spent casings from gunshots, no scuffs or pools of blood... nothing.

The motion sensor is silent. There is nobody else at the camp. Or if there is, they're doing a damned fine impression of a statue.

Bob, CD, can you see if you can get that APC up and running? I'd rather not be prancing around in a forest with things like that *points to gate* out and about."

"I'm just slightly uncomfortable. We're lost out at some base in the middle of nowhere. I would prefer to know what is out there. But I'm sure that we will find something here that will help. Like a map, or some way of contacting the Ulysses."

Understood sir. Shame we cant get that radar vehicle running, could do with some warning if something capable of tearing through metal comes a knocking.
