Re: Roll To Dodge : Cooperative - Planning stage WE NEED PLAYERS
I thought it was:
Post nuclear war in a burnt city that once had used technology to enhance innate magical ability, kinda like ME3 meets Phantasy Star, looking for revenge for destroying our city/families we venture out to find out who did it. I don't know how we are going to pull off serious tech faeries, but I think we can come up with a balance.
EDIT: Flail's A option sounds nice.

B would be pretty nifty (and not just 'cause I played the hell out of PSO:BB), but A sounds like the most 'practical' in terms of what everyone would probably be most familiar/comfortable with.

To be honest, I'm not comfortable with either setting.
Therefore, I abstain.

i honestly don't know what to think
Although Flail's option A does sound rather intriguing.

Problem?
What would you be comfortable with then? Because your idea is very similar anyway.
Also, 5 As vs 1 B if we're voting.

We have two nations who accidentally destroyed the player's homes in their war, probably caught in the cross fire, right?
We also have two extremes. See where I am going with this?
We have one nation, purely technological, with all their technology being at around late Victorian/steampunk. So trains, Zeppelins, flintlock pistols but cars are still in their infancy, and fixed wing aircraft are simply experimental for now.
Meanwhile, on the other side, we have a purely magical society, with technology being around the medieval age, but magically enhanced. So swords and shields, yes, but with enchantments and such. They won't use technology, seeing that their magical powers can give them pretty much the same result.
The players hometown, was caught in the middle between the two civilizations, and therefore would have cultural influences from both.
This nails down why the players have technology and magic and how they were caught in the cross fire.
So, summed up, one civilization is devoid of magic, relying on technology for its daily life, while the opposite is true for the other civilization, which uses magic as the corner stone of its civilization.
But if you'd like a video of sorts on what I mean, take a look at this.
The Vinchi (0:35 seconds in ) , a steam punk civilization have developed a civilization completely devoid of magic. Meanwhile, the Alinn (seen at 0:30) have made their civilzation completely dependent on magic, lacking most basic forms of technology. The race in the beginning of the into are actually aliens, who disguise their ultra advanced technology as magic.
Not only that, that video even has a war between magic and technology.
That. That is a setting that I'd feel comfortable in. Less hybridization in the two civilizations, more contrast. Different styles of living and culture would cause friction and lead to war. The players, located in the middle, would have a small amount of both, being unspecialised. It would be up to the players to choose if they want science or sorcery.

You know what, I suddenly find myself agreeing here.
Option B sounds kind of like Phantasy Star, and I never liked that story in particular.
Option A sounds good, but a conflict like Caek described could be even more interesting... also, I'd be much more comfortable writing that sort of thing (it's kind of like my last RTD, well, vaguely similar in that there is specifically a majyyk side and a WHEE GEARS side).

Can I change my vote to Caek's plan? sounds pretty cool. I like contrast and the different options of character you could go down.

Re: Roll To Dodge : Cooperative - Planning stage WE NEED PLAYERS
The idea of combining magic and technology has the potential to be pretty epic. I'm watching an anime show online right now that's (sort of) relevant.
It focuses a lot on magic, since all of the main characters are mages, but there is technology here and there. There is a vehicle, for example, that is powered by magical energies. Eventually, this wears out the user to the point where they faint from exhaustion. There are also magical objects such as glasses that allow one to read at high speeds.
And if we're going to combine the two, is the technology going to be Steampunk, or Futuristic? Or a crazy Steampunk/Medieval hybrid? There are a lot of choices to be made.
EDIT - I like the two contrasting sides idea as well. It would allow the players to make a choice - become super techno-y or magic-y. Or a bit of both. I have an odd feeling everyone's going to want to be a bit of both, though.

Re: Roll To Dodge : Cooperative - Planning stage WE NEED PLAYERS
I think theres still some confusion, but were getting closer.
Caek, are you talking about what you want, what we should have or what (you think) we currently have suggested?
Because I like your suggestion. Two major civs with different technology, Player's Town caught between them in both War and Magic/Tech combination. Which means they have the upper hand!
Moar discusshun!

That was quite confusing what you just said.
I presented that effectively as Option C.

Totally for it. The split idea would be really cool. Some people could be wielding fancy guns, and others can be shooting fireballs.
